Selecting instruments and synths
Hi all
What's your thought process in selecting instruments and sounds for your tracks.
I still struggle at times selecting sounds that sit well sonically in a track
I would like to get an insight on how others approach this

Hi mate..nice topic for discussion !
I tend to find that more often than not my instrumentation choices are dictated by the beat i make.
I ensure that since my kick is going to be the dominant frequency in the track..all the other elements must be in key with it !
For example , if the kick is peaking at roughly at 50 or 98 hz(one octave higher) , i know now it is in G. so as long as there is a G in the key of the track your working in..your job becomes that much simpler to fit everything in sonically.. and i find by distributing the synths across the mid-high octaves ..you dont even need to eq them that much..thus preserving more of their harmonics and thus making the sound warmer and rounder and fit in easier with the rest of the track , because each synth/drum hit/bass will not be fighting for the same frequency area and should sit better together.
I have started to build myself a lil library with each percussive instrument noted with its corresponding note and i tend to pick from this pool.
