Blacks are quick to rally when it's a non-black or police shooting a black person - however for the black-skinned enemy living next door, we're silent. Until Black Men en masse take to the streets and protest like they did for Trayvon Martin, this madness will continue. However, and not to be a Debbie-downer, that's NOT going to happen anytime soon!!! In 1995 it happened in Washington, DC and we see the results a generation later. In 2007 it happened in Philadelphia where supposedly 10,000 convened at a forum regarding violence in black communities; 2 weeks later, only 40 out of 10,000 showed up for training and now the organization doesn't exist.

Here's a story for you: In 2006 while a grad student in the Executive Program (fast-track master's degree) at Drexel University, the class had to write a paper on gun violence. I submitted my paper with SOLUTIONS and thought all was okay. Several days later, I receive an email from the professor asking to see me immediately to discuss my submission. When I arrived, all hell broke loose.

First, he was red in the face...I felt anger from him and didn't know why. Secondly, he demanded I sit down instead of asking. I just looked at him like he was crazy until he adjusted his attitude. Once he politely asked me to sit, I obliged and then he ripped into me.

He went on to tell me, based on my paper, I would have to re-write it again. Here are his exact words: "You know NOTHING about young black men and I didn't ask for any SOLUTIONS." I just started laughing hysterically, while pointing at him speaking these words: "You, a white man, are going to tell me that I, a black women with 8 brothers, at least 20 nephews, neighbors, friends, brothers I used to shoot hoops and throw footballs with, KNOW NOTHING ABOUT YOUNG BLACK MEN. You, a white man, are going to tell me with a straight face that I, a black women who has mentored, tutored and nurtured young black men since the age of 10 when I first started babysitting, that I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT YOUNG BLACK MEN. Professor, you are crazy to have those words come out of your mouth!!!

And like I told the professor in 2006, "I don't care how many black, white, asian latino men or women with Master's degrees or PhD's you graduate from this university, none of you will EVER create viable solutions because your lack of connections/ties to the community, Ghetto Grapevine and their mindsets DON'T EXIST. Yet, you chastise me for presenting solutions and being a black woman whose experiences supercede any research you have ever conducted or will ever do."

Three weeks later, I was fired from my job as a graduate placement coordinator and evaporated from the EP master's degree program. Today, here's what the professor is doing: http://www.jefferson.edu/population_...ic_health.html

Maybe if Heaven's murder had a video to go viral. Derion's killing got immediate attention from the Prez, Atty Gen, on down. Once the world moved on, it seems so did they. I recall a few months ago, the CPD asking or getting some help from the Feds. Til then keep ya head low.

Neighbors are "supposed" to look out for one another and the block they live on. AgentDoubleA, just approach your neighbor, tell her your concerns and try to come to a happy conclusion for all. Hey, maybe you could chaperon one of the teen parties and show them how it's done.

Every day folks are telling me to be careful on the streets because they know I will express my opinion. When I see folks throw trash on my block, I say, "PICK IT UP...you don't live around here and we want a clean block." They look at me, stop to contemplate and then go back to pick up the trash they dropped.

When folks have parties and it's 2am and I hear lots of noise, I politely ask them to lower the volume. If they ignore me, I put my clothes on, walk out the house and approach them with a certain look on my face. Of course someone will have something to say and I walk up to them and they STFU. I thank them for their cooperation and say, "Continue to have a great time." Not another peep from them disturbing the neighbors.

When I see young males walking down the street with their pants hanging and spewing foul language, I approach them and start a conversation. By the time I'm finished, their pants are up, they are smiling and thanking me. Some even come back for more conversations and oftentimes I give lend them books or music from my collections. Seventy-five percent return the materials.

Let's be real: Scare people live in filthy, blighted and crime infested neighborhoods. However, it only takes one brave person to STAND UP and speak his/her mind. Yes, folks will be taken aback and/or curse you out or try to get violent, but my experiences tell me 95% will be cooperative.

I know the solutions are hard, but SOMEONE HAS TO STAND UP TO PROTECT THE CHILDREN AND ELDERS! I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO FEAR and if it's my time to leave this Earth...then so be it!

I came home on Friday and went to the carport in the rear when I noticed furniture and personal belongings thrown throughout the alley. Apparently the neighbors lease was up and not renewed.
