    Question for traxsource

I found this site via a discussion on Facebook
Apparently you can download the entire top 100 traxsource tunes via an FTP for 20 dollars
Are you aware of this site?

Needless to say this ain't good!

These sites keep popping up. Just helped a friend get one shut down a few weeks ago doing the same exact thing.

The crazy thing is, even if you figure out who and where they are, and shut them down, how can you stop them from doing it again? All it takes is a stolen credit card number and a server.

    smh

Doug, I make it a point to tell all my clients that if someone thinks your shit is worth booting / sharing / etc. at least that's a bit of a compliment - you're getting noticed!

You can (and should) send cease & desist letters to the sites - you should also activate Google Alerts (free) so you don't have to do dailiy searches.

I've noticed in recent months that major label stuff is much harder to find pirated versions of these days
The Govt taking down megaupload seems to have motivated people

it is literally a BOOK about IP Piracy. Quite a fascinating read and some discussion of disco, hip hop, underground parties, etc. are included. I believe Bill Brewster's books, among many others, are referenced pretty regularly.

Could be helpful in understanding the pirate mentality and recognizing that it has its place in our society - like pirate radio, underground parties, etc. A very interesting read indeed.

    set google alerts..
take down the first few illegal copies of your releases and unless you're or one of your releases are by superstars hardly anyone will re-upload and most of the blogs using the same early download links will render useless..
if you let it go for the first week, chances are your music will end up on every file sharing blog

any copyright owner can initiate DMCA removals with either the filesharing pages or if it's a google blogspot, you can even have the entire blog shut down. .
also very effective is reporting illegal file sharing sites which ask for paypal donations to paypal including a DMCA notice and eventually paypal will block their account and freeze their donations ..
a really good way to screw w/ the peeps ..

    peace,
    lars

"You seem to think piracy, on the whole, is a good thing. Why?

I think it can have good and bad outcomes, hence the dilemma. But when it is good it’s because it adds value to society. Pirates are only worth competing with in the marketplace if they are adding value to society in some way. The way to compete with pirates is to legitimise what they are doing, and find a way to monetise that value. Steve Jobs did it with iTunes. Radiohead did it with In Rainbows. Nike also gets it – it allowed Japanese fashion brand A Bathing Ape to come out with a very similar looking sneaker to their Air Force One, because the company realised that particular shoe, which was more of a remix than a trademark infringement, was adding value to their original the same way a good remix adds value to an original tune.

Piracy is the sharp end of innovation, innovation by any means necessary. Digital distribution is a much more efficient way to deliver music than CDs and that's why people switched to it without the music industry wanting them to. A lot of people think my argument is that all piracy is great, which isn't really the argument. The argument in the book is piracy can actually be a market signal. It really highlights market failures in many ways."
