Sammy, Can you give me the definition of Freestyle, Because for years plates like, 'All-in-all', By Joyce Sims, 'Let the music play', By Shannon, 'Crash goes my love', By Loletta Holloway, Etc, Have been called Freestyle plates by cats on the DHP board, Yet, All of those plates have always been dance music plates too me , My man/LOL.

Freestyle or Latin freestyle is a form of electronic dance music that emerged in the early 1980s, and was mostly popular during the mid-1980s through the early '90s. It continues to be produced today and enjoys some degree of popularity, especially in urban Latino and Italian communities, as it did when it first came on to the scene.
Notable performers in the freestyle genre include George Lamond, Collage, Jocelyn Enriquez, Nu Shooz, Johnny O, Sa-Fire, Stevie B, TKA, Judy Torres, Information Society, Exposé, Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, La India, Shana, Corina, Nocera, Company B, The Cover Girls, Noel, Pajama Party, Shannon, Will to Power, Sweet Sensation, Seduction, Linear, Lisette Melendez, Angelina[disambiguation needed], Laissez Faire, Cynthia, Coro, and Rockell.
LOL that explains it.. I guess it's that funkee hip-hop combined with some latin flavor elements is what made us call it FREESTYLE back then.. even now it's still very popular for the young generation and some old ballerz lol.

Sammy, Good lookin in regards to the defintion of freestyle, Though, I always felt some of the artists that you mentioned earlier(Shannon, Nu-Shooz, Nocera('Sumertime,Sumertime') Regina, Information Society, Etc, Made Dance music plates, My man(Sammy, I always tried to not categorize music so much for the
Confusion of what is what, My man/LOL), Sammy, If a plate(Record), Can make cats and young ladies get the bone out they're backs on the dancefloor, Then, It's Dance music too me, My man/LOL.

Mike IMO it has to do more with the dancing (freestyle) vs. the actual name of the music although they call it "Latin House" ,"Latin Club" or "Freesyle". Most indentify this type sound to the dancing Freestlye like the Webbo (lol) and other mixed in hip-hop dancing with modern dance if that makes any sense LOL

Sammy, Can a cat do the Gigolo or the Cabbage Patch off of free-style plates too, My man(Sammy, I was on the floor laughin at you're prior comment about the Webbo, My man/LOL), Sammy, Would, 'Watch the Closing Doors',By IRT be considered a free-style plate, My man.

'Watch the Closing Doors', By IRT(1984)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdN7tOoJBn0
Always thought the Freestyle label to be odd. Would Al NAayfish- The Soul be considered one of the first? It's a far cry form 'Diamond Girl'. LOL 'The soul' was a track that gets played or mixed across Genre's Hip Hop, House, ect..
When you can't see the angles no more, you're in trouble baby, you're in trouble. Carlito's Way
You can dance what you want to anything Mike..all Im sayin is that the webbo was bought on by these kinds of tracks.
"Watch the closing Doors" by IRT is NOT a Freestyle track but still made an impact in the freestlye circut so is Al Naayfish. Both these tracks were also played at the Big Room Clubs and across the land.So when you hear that sound you can bet your ass we played it at the freestyle events LOL
The Devils Nest,Pieces,Peoples,Riddlers (herpes triangle) lol were not spots for this type music till it hit Studio 54,the Pallaidum,Roxy and even Larry Levan played a few nice ones.

Yes Mike. LLV was one of their resident Dj's along with Dj Hollywoood and others. The Nest used to be the Fever that is correct and when Freestyle Music came along it spread like wildfire.I give LLV props for dropping some dope cuts at the club including Running - Information Society of which LLV himself did a remix on at a later time on Tommy Boy Records amoung many other pieces.

A drive-in movie theatre by The Hutchinson River Parkway, During the 70's to early 80's(The spot was changed into The Whitestone Multi-plex Cinema during the 80's, My man/LOL), Sammy, That drive-in Threatre was one of the last drive-in movie threate's in New York City before the Drive-in was changed into the Whitestone Multi-plex threatre during the early 80's, My man.

During the late 70's, Though, I remember Timmy Hall rockin at the Stardust ballroom in 1976 too, Along with the work Timmy Hall and KBJ used to do on the college circuit on Long Island during the late 70's to mid 80's(Exhibit A:New York Tech, Old Westbury, Stoney Brook, Adelphi University,South Hampton, Etc, My

Sammy, It took me a long time to find out the young lady singing on the plate, 'Summertime,Summertime', During the mid 80's, My man(I always loved the plate, Though, I never heard who the artist was whenever i would hear the plate on BLS and i did not want to ask cats the name of the plate while a cat was mixing and i would forget to ask cats at the record stores in Manhattan whenever i would be on the prowl for plates during the mid 80's, My man, Sammy, I used to get plates from Cutting Records during the
Early to mid 90's and Cutting records used to send me a list of plates/CD's that they we're selling and alot of the plates that we have built about in regards to Freestyle we're on the lists of plates that Cutting records had during the 90's, My man, Sammy, If i remember correctly, One of the Latin Rascals had something to do with Cutting records during the 90's, My man(Sammy, I'm very sure you can scoop me up on Cutting records, My man).

Sammy, Good lookin in regards to the information on Cutting Records, My man, Sammy, I always felt the plate, 'Suffer the Consquences', By Rachelle Fleming from 1994, Was vastly under-rated(Produced by Master at Work).

'Suffer The Consequences', By Rachelle Fleming(1994/Masters at Work mix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_JnRlkgjBQ
That Rachelle Fleming was another hot joint to play back then, the difference is that Suffer and Consequences fall under the "house music" & Club Music category respectively.
