That centaur scene was from "Jason And The Argonauts" (Ray Harryhausen) ... I used to sprinkle in a fair amount of footage snippets from that movie. LOL

just snippets on the dance floor, seemed to always be perfectly timed to the music, in a very dramatic way. Think of how you would use an accapella to set or break the mood. It might be while the song is playing, it might be at the end of a very hot track, or it might be to dramatically "cut in" in a "pay attention bitch, I am playing!!"....

Back then it was about drama, and there was no way you came to the Garage (or the other major NYC underground dance clubs back then) and just dance, leave, and not know who the dj was...Larry was so dramatic with his, that even if it was your first nite there, you would actively try to find out who this dj was. This is why today I get a little annoyed when you see djs just tucked away in the corner like one of the "grey people".

In the Paradise Garage, once you see that white screen coming down over the stage area, you knew to epect some serious visual stimulation. There was a full movie room in the back...this was a cinema, not a chill out room and you would be "sssshhh" if you went in there just to hold a convo with your boys.

I remember one friday nite (arguable the straight night of the 2 nights) at the Garage, around 1986-87, place was pack, so pack, you could barely move, Larry is putting the place in a Frenzy...this would be around 4-5am...He then decide to fuck with the crowd, or empty out the club of all the visitors (by late '86 to '87 every dumb ass and their friends from around the way would be up in the "G" as they called it....hate that fucking term)...he kept the screen down all night, so we were never ready for what would flash on the screen. What he did next still blew folks mind that was there that night.

As the music is playing (think tunes like "This is Cocaine speaking/Your Only Friend", 7 Ways, Ma Foom Bey, etc), folks would see stuff flash on the screen and before their minds to actually figure what it was, it would be off again...he would do this on and off for a good 20mins, but not in regular intervals (Hope you understand what I am saying)...folks would be "did you see that" "what" "nothing"...after a few, the whole club is buzzing.

Turns out, Larry was flashing 2 men having some real hardcore intercourse!! For whatever reason now the whole place is getting charged...then out of nowhere, he cuts the music, kills all the lights, and for about 30 seconds (seems like an eternity), put these 2 dudes on the screen fucking like no tomorrow, then drops the music back in, and lights camera action.....well needless to say, those who could not deal, made a bee-line to the door and us members went on to have one of the best nights in the club...for the rest of the night folks was just looking up at the screen, that never came back on.

That is the type of genius Larry is (I said "is" because I have not seen anybody like him since), and was....

Levan played "Paranoid" by Sabbath? That takes guts in a club worldy famous for playing underground dance music. The more you guys talk about Levan, the more I'm impressed with him, coming from the Frankie Knuckles/Ron Hardy school.

I'd take "Dancin and Prancin", "Super City" or "Do You Wanna Dance" over either of them.

Marbil, What was mad bugged about Larry Levan running the plate, 'Paraniod', By Black Sabbath at the Garage in 1983 was, What took place after Money(Larry Levan ran, 'Paraniod', My man/LOL), Marbil, Larry Levan was having a very off-night mixing and programming for hours(I arrived at the Garage at around 2:30 Friday nite/Saturday morning and Money/Larry Levan was not in rare form, My man), Marbil, Larry Levan runs, Paranoid', At about 6:00am(I remember this night

Very well because i was getting ready to bounce after money ran, 'Paranoid', My man/LOL), But, My man from around the way(Southside/Jamaica,Queens), Who was a few years older than me, Along with with my man hanging at Reade St when Larry Levan was mixing there during the early/mid 70's(Around 1974-75), Asked me to stay because my man knew Larry Levan's style of rockin a spot(Though, I had been going to the Garage since 1981, I never heard Larry Levan bug like he

Was doing that night in 1983, My man/LOL), So i decided to stay for a few while, 'Paranoid', Is playing(The plate is not that long, But mad loud and with the power the Garage had that shit sounded extremely in-tense, My man/LOL), Marbil, Larry Levan let, 'Paraniod', Play out to the end of the plate at which time Larry Levan runs a sound effects plate of an plane taking off with the smoke machine coming on and the spot is mad dark(That sound effects plate of a plane taking off sounds

Like being on the runaway of Kennedy Airport, My man/LOL), Then, Larry Levan runs the break of, 'Plane Love', By Jeffery Osborne with the sound effects plate fading out very slowly and the smoke machine on and the siren going off at Garage too(That shit was the most bugged and intense shit that i've ever seen in a spot, Because Larry Levan rocked from 6:00am to 11:00am mad hard after that, Which mad me forget the 4 plus hours of Larry Levan mad buggin earlier in the night,

My man/LOL, Marbil, From that night, I learned what to expect form Larry Levan at the Garage, My man/LOL, Marbil, Money(Larry Levan), Was a master at setting a mood in a spot at the drop of a dime with his and when Larry Levan was on his game rockin a spot(There we're not to many others nights that i've ever had partying that we're better, My man/LOL).

wow...I just sweated reading this...INTENSE is what Larry was and could be...stories, and nights like this is what made us fans of Larry stayed in his room/dancefloor for hours on end, even when Larry was not on point...

I remember after the Garage closed and Larry use to play at Choice an other places and folks use to say "Larry has lost it" or "he is washed up" and I use to say "then why is the place still packed?" and the overwhelming answer was "because we know at even given minute/night/party Larry gcould give you one of those life altering sets, and I don't want to be the only one who missed it"

Marbil, I feel it took guts for a cat to run, Paranoid', By Black Sabbath at a spot that a dj was a guest at or on the radio, Because Larry Levan most definitely knew his crowd at the Garage in regards to Larry Levasn running anything at any given time(If Larry Levan was rockin or not the whole night too, My man/LOL), Marbil, Now, If Larry Levan would have run, 'Paranoid', On BLS at 2:00am friday nite/Saturday morning, Larry levan could have put himself in a position to ward-off any

Potential cats listening who heard of Larry Levan and the Garage, To not want to go to the Garage off of Larry Levan running, 'Paranoid', My man/LOL, Marbil, That's why i state that cats had to be at they're best on the radio because alot of cats listening to a cat mix on the radio, May not have been up on a cats style of Dj'ing, So a cat rockin on the radio had to rock from the start or at least build up to rockin as the records play and play, My man/LOL, Marbil, When i first heard Larry Levan

Mix(On BLS in 1979), I heard of Larry Levan rockin at Continental Baths and Reade St during the early/mid 70's, So that made me want to hear Larry Levan mix, So when the opportunity to turn on the radio and hear Larry Levan rockin on BLS in 1979, I was extremely impressed with money's mixing and blending abilities, Along with Money's programming talents too, My man, Though, It took me 2 years after that to hear Larry Levan mix in the Garage in 1981(I was hanging at mad

Spots in New York City from 1979-81 and i never got around to going to the Garage until 1981, My man/LOL), Yet, The first time i heard Larry Levan mix at the Garage in 1981, I was dis-appointed, My man, Money was not rockin, The Garage was half-empty(All night and i arrived at the Garage around 2:00am on a friday nite/Saturday morning, My man), Marbil, I was expecting to hear Larry Levan rock at the Garage like i was used to hearing Larry Levan rock on BLS, But/LOL, The

Second time i went to the Garage a few months later in 1981, That shit, 'WAS ROCKIN ALL-NIGHT MAD LOVELY', My man/LOL, Ray, What used to impress me about the Garage was the vast amount of celebrites who used to get mad loose at the Garage that nobody dancing at the Garage, Cared about, My man/LOL, Ray, I was used to seeing celebrities in a spot frontin at the bar or doing a two-step dance while getting zooted, But, Most of the celebrites that i remember at the Garage used

To get mad loose, My man/LOL, Ray, The Only other spot that i've been in that featured mad celebrites getting loose on the danceflor was at Justines(Reggie Wells spot on 35thst and 8thave down the street from Madison Square Garden), Ray, You know a cat is mad into the music, When a cat is getting caligulia loose with a 3-piece suit on with $400 dollar Italian shoes on too, My man/LOL.

Chuck, The spot behind the speakers(On either side of the Garage by the stage), Was always crowded with a cat getting caligulia loose with a young lady and in that type of environment at the Garage, Cats would sometimes not allow a cat to sandwich up the young lady that a cat was rockin, My man/LOL, So i resorted to doing

My XXXX-Rated shit at the very far back area of the stage, Where it was mad dark and nobody could see what i was doing to a young lady(And for those young ladies who saw what i was doing to another young lady, Well, That young lady/ladies had to be a willing or un-willing participant too, My man/LOL.
