bad how though? what's the bad thing that happens to skin? i've been using them since i moved to the civilized world and uh.. my skin is fine? but i'm open to getting my learn on.

They do still make them, as well as a "version" of them that uses a replaceable blade like the safety razors.

Thing is, they are expensive as shit (like $250 range), they require a good amount of maintenance and equipment needed to perform the maintenance and from what I can tell the maintenance aspect is an art...

    Real deal:

    Replaceable:

As for the shaving against the grain... F that. I tried that dumb shit once, years ago. Tore my face up.

This new razor cuts close enough that I could almost see being able to shave, reapply cream and then shave against the grain without much trouble, but I'm not trying it.

If you haven't already got one, get a Syptic Pencil, saves walking around with pieces of toilet tissue on face.

A styptic pencil is a short medicated stick generally made of powdered crystal from an alum block and a waxy binder which is pressed into a pencil shape. It is generally used to seal small cuts and nicks, especially from razors.

Before the days of the safety razor the styptic pencil was a necessary part of a man's shaving kit and was used to seal cuts caused by improper shaving, although many people still continue to use safety razors and styptic pencils.

Styptic pencils are great if you ever cut yourself shaving. They will stop the bleeding immediately and work well on minor abrasions as well as shaving cuts.

You just increase the chance of anything irritating that can happen with shaving. Ingrown hairs, razor burns etc..... It's generally a less sanitary experience. Purists of course are on a single blade movement, so if you like the multi blade two is a compromise.

Just adding my two cents in from a woman's perspective... as you men know we go through alot of shaving as well....so here goes some of my tips...(which can be applied to both male and female)...I'll use leg shaving for example...I get them wet...and I apply hair conditioner to begin to soften the hair....for a few minutes...rinse off...then add the shaving lather....in long soft strokes..(no need to press that razor on your skin...just glide it please)...I begin to shave...after the shave...I wash them with a nice shea butter soap...olive oil soap maybe...just a wash that gently moisterizes....with a loofah...the loofah serves as an exfoliator that will take off any dead skin and will prevent those bumps which is pretty much ingrown hair trapped under dead skin with no place to go..afterwards I cream up with Vitamin E Oil, lotion or body butter..and wallah.....hope my two cents helps....

My stepfather (rip) taught me to avoid razors all together because of how it affects the skin and how multiple bladed razors clip the hair to the point where it folds under the skin, thus causing razor bumbs, infections, Your boy Baron Harkonnen from Dune to put it mildly. He used to use that Magic Shave shit, I don't know what was worse, the smell of Chitlins cookin in the kitchen, or Magic Shave coming from the bathroom. I take a dab of warm water and alcohol, wash my face and neck, take hair clippers or trimmers, to shave, warm water and alcohol, then lotion to moisten my face and neck.

For those of you that can deal with basic blades but want to save cash. I think I saw this here?!?!
    http://www.dollarshaveclub.com/

Deesko as a cat that skated through 4 years in the Army (minus basic lol) on a shaving profile I do sympathize but this scares the shesh out of me. Doesn't help that I don't know how to shave. I thought I did until you basically pointed out your conventional razor dummy proofs it for you.

My best shaves came from an old school female barber that used a straight razor. She had a soft and steady hand! I would be clean and baby butt soft but days later bring on the pain. I was told to go shave again right away so my face would get used to it. Not sure how true that is but I wasn't willing to take that chance especially considering I would be doing the "training" not Mrs soft hands.

Sally beauty carries "balding clippers" and I've just come to expect thats about as close Im gonna get to a clean shave minus major bumps and irritation. Please follow up on your prolonged use with this system.

I see cats that get clean shaves but due to having to shave so often (as I would with my hyper growth) they ending burning their skin until it takes on a dark almost black shade on the skin itself.

This is all I use. It cuts close without ever worrying about bumps. Razors cut me real close, but if I don't shave daily. The grow back kills my face and I bump horribly. Magic Shave burns my face too much.

DeesKo, here's my contribution to the thread: http://deephousepage.com/forums/show...highlight=bald (post #5). I've been told by men who used to get razor bumps on their faces/necks that the regimen works for them.

I had bad times w Magic Shave...tore my face up.I always had to use clippers, due to me bumping up.The only time I was able to use a blade, was when they dropped that Mach 3 razor.I also had to stay on top of it,or I would bump up like crazy.I started using an exfoliator before shaving and that really helped as well.

I still use clippers to shave and I don't have issues.I also swear by these shavers, for cats who use clippers.Gets ya close and no bumps at all, after using trimmers.

    "manscaped"

I've took a knife to the fucker a few times, caveman style. Generally I want it like a candifloss airbag, so I don't break the clit with my manly pelvic bone thrusts. ;)

Martin, thanks for the recommendation. I got a Syptic Pencil from Amazon for under $3, and had my first chance to use it a few days ago--- it worked very well.
