Great news!! I am not on Shelter's email list so this would've had to come my way via the drum on the street but nevertheless I am glad and spreading the word!

Yo, not for nothin' but the last thing anyone should be critiquing in a Shelter thread is communication flow.

I'm so confused... Why did it close? It was brand new...? It had to remodel or was it a summer break thing? Didn't they just open this winter?
I could never understand from the dialogue on here why it was not open this whole time...

Saw this email but just found it confusing.

#obviously not in the know but just likes to go to shelter

You'll have to excuse me. I'm the product of a broken disco.

    Exactly lol.

Well to begin the new Shelter Space is actually a club called W.I.P> They are open many days of the week. Shelter team i believe has some form of ownership of the WIP space and GreenHouse space which is in the same building and connected. Shelter takes place on Sun afternoons to evenings. The Shelter party stopped for a few months for their own reasons but parties have been taking place there almost every sunday.

That's all i know from an outside perspective. EIther way the space is awesome, the sound is awesome and Timmy on the decks make it all a great party. Cant wait for the return.

I wholeheartedly agree with this: "the space is awesome, the sound is awesome and Timmy on the decks make it all a great party. Cant wait for the return."

But still don't understand this: "Well to begin the new Shelter Space is actually a club called W.I.P> They are open many days of the week. Shelter team i believe has some form of ownership of the WIP space and GreenHouse space which is in the same building and connected. Shelter takes place on Sun afternoons to evenings. I honestly don't give a shit. but as someone who started planning her weekends to come up from DC 2 times a month would really like the straight dope. As in this "announcement" is the lamest way to reopen considering this hiatus. Seriously??? Intrigue?? You think you can ride PR intrigue when the whole thing is weird?? Own it! "closed for the summer" "on vacation" "shelter returns August xx" that sequence makes actual sense and still preserves whatever need for privacy that (I agree) should be afforded...

The whole mysterious return is what has me over the edge...,

"more to come" is the promotion of a group who's up front and has a trust going on with it's patronage.

Im in a position of having to wait a few weeks, messaging some of you on here to see how it really is now, before I dedicate to booking megabus and trusting this again

Sorry ... Just confused by this scenario ... But I'm socially awkward and don't get anything but directness ;)

Actually I reread and I call bullshit on myself. Where I say I don't give a shit... Lie. I give a shit. What I don't care about is really knowing what happened... I just think the whole series of information and events is bizzare

    But I give a shit

Nothing happened or if something did it really doesn't matter. Timmy usually travels a lot during certain times of the year regardless of any drama with the home room. W.I.P did get shut down under much publicity for a couple of weeks and it has no doubt incurred some heat from the city. It's reasonable to assess this effected Shelter the party in the W.I.P room in some kind of way (perhaps it delayed it's return a bit, pure speculation). Maybe they stopped the party for other reasons before Timmy started traveling maybe they didn't. I'm not privy to inside knowledge and don't really care. For one reason or another they stopped in the late spring and have now announced they will be returning in the fall. Could have been for one reason or three. The reason has not been talk, which says to me that it's probably not for any kind of dramatic reason like the bootleg of a bootleg of a bootlegged remix.

Dave R will no doubt accuse me of drinking the kool aid for excusing such "maddening" behavior by the Shelter crew. We all forget how many things can knock a party off it's feet. It's a constant struggle to keep something like that going in a sizable room in money making Manhattan.

the fact that you addressed me, and typed that, lets me know, that you know, that you're drunk on it

... the last line in your post is the only important (and accurate) line in any of this, imho ... and that line goes for any city/town in this world

I've said time and time again, all this 'opening' / 'closing', Shelter is a CLUB and/or a space stuff is absolutely ridiculous ... Shelter is just a party, end of story ... it's amazing in Miami (I go, or at least hang out every year), and have respected it for decades (although I haven't been to the NYC Shelter since Summer 1999)

9/16 doesn't say "re-opening" thankfully - it might just be a 1-off ... but alas, that goes to the terrible communications that Shelter has become known for of recent - amazing they still have loyal out-of-town patrons like Kara, that feind for it; one day, they might miss folks like her (I hope that day never comes), thinking that these little bulletin board (and email) blurbs actually drive excitement (rather than confusion, and perhaps even disdain)

... and I've said this too, time and time again, Shelter need some REAL serious/professional promoters, communication folks and marketers in their camp

No it doesn't. It means that I'm acknowledging our precedence on Shelter threads. We've gone back and forth on it more than once and I knew you'd be reading what I wrote in this thread.

It would be my speculation that the Shelter management team, in light of their hours of operation, wisely chose to take a vacation themselves. There is an abundance of outdoor free musical/dance events on summer weekends like no other time in our lives. Lots of those free events are targeted to the very same people who attend Shelter. Given a choice to dance free outdoors or whatever cover and indoors what would you choose?
