It's reasonable to assess this effected Shelter the party in the W.I.P room in some kind of way (perhaps it delayed it's return a bit, pure speculation). Maybe they stopped the party for other reasons before Timmy started traveling maybe they didn't. I'm not privy to inside knowledge and don't really care. For one reason or another they stopped in the late spring and have now announced they will be returning in the fall. Could have been for one reason or three. The reason has not been talk, which says to me that it's probably not for any kind of dramatic reason like the bootleg of a bootleg of a bootlegged remix.

Dave R will no doubt accuse me of drinking the kool aid for excusing such "maddening" behavior by the Shelter crew. We all forget how many things can knock a party off it's feet. It's a constant struggle to keep something like that going in a sizable room in money making Manhattan.
Thanks. That makes sense ...Sorta. I guess I just don't get why not be forthcoming ... It would make peoplle take the teaser for September 16 more seriously (in my little opinion)

Given a choice to dance free outdoors or whatever cover and indoors what would you choose?
Wisely chose to take a vacation, so they wisely decided not to tell anyone? (and in that anyone, could be folks from out of town, who made plans to travel to NYC, specifically to go to Shelter)

Man, that Kool-aid must be potent as a MFer, to be saying some stuff like that

There are Grand announcements when they operate, and usually no announcements when they don't ... that's like the polar-opposite of wise, and doesn't speak much to anything being their choice

For me, not one of their other iterations ever replaced the original Hubert Street location. That being said, I'm glad that this party continues
As for the charges against me, I am unconcerned. I am beyond their timid lying morality, and so I am beyond caring.

Hubert st was all time I wanted to choke Sandy ( Howard the owner's son) when he said he would just as quickly turn it into a Starbucks after his dad died.
I loved 39th st because of the roof and the oh so many "nooks and crannies" accessible

For me, 39th street was claustrophobic. It had hidey-holes but I never dug the vibe

I never liked this new room (on the few occasions that I've attended) but I'm probably tOo old to appreciate the new format and the irregularity ( being regular is appreciated by seniors)

What I do like is that Shelter endures as a black run institution. It's hard to do anything for 20 odd years. Nuff Respect

You know I sit back and watch certain things in here and it's real comical. "Shelter" is a very touchy subject. It goes on the list of discussions with religion, & politics that create a rift among folks.

I know what a force it used to be...but it clearly isn't that anymore. The hard core supporters are going to be that no matter what, but the non support list grows and grows more with each long lay off. I agree with Mark that for it to run 20 years is big, much respect. But...ummm...err...ahhh...it's seems almost to the point where it's on life support. I can't say if it's marketing, promoting, bad communications, or failure to pass the torch but something has not been right. Seems like there are more empty promises than parties. Shelter is one of the few iconic parties left, they should do more to keep it going.

I'm not against them at all...just a few points from observations.

Remember when we didn't NEED marketing for underground parties? Word of mouth was all it took to pack a party. But things have changed, I know. Carry on....

Man, at that last spot I was truly disappointed. I'd previously viewed a few comments from some FB friends and remember one in particular complaining about the sound- particularly the lack of highs. He was held under heavy scrutiny for openly expressing his views (don't ever say anything negative about our beloved Shelter, gat dammit!). On the one day that I'd gone down there, I didn't remember that specific criticism... until I went in the room. I was shocked. This was one of the first weekends where they had just the one room instead of two (whatever happened to Junior was funny to me rumor wise). Aside from the muffled sound, most of the session were house remixes of R&B cuts.

I also remember the 'Grand' opening on Van Dam several years back when they kept pushing back the dates because they wanted to make sure that things were tight. On that night the sound system was out downstairs, there was no AC and ceilings were leaking all over.

I really hope that they get things together this time around cuz this/we are getting too old.
