“Right place, right time.” It's an old cliché, but it's one that has defined Dennis Ferrer's musical career. Just as the dance music world was heading into the world of afro-centric house, Ferrer was there. When it began to embrace the mix of tech and soul, Ferrer was there again, leading the way with his impeccable productions. As Ferrer goes, it seems, so does electronic music. As someone who's never content to do the same thing twice, it's clear that he'll be staying on top for years to come.
The last three years have been absolutely massive for Dennis Ferrer with a Grammy Nomination for his remix of Dido’s “Don’t Believe in Love”, as well as nominations for “Best House Artist” and “Best House Track” for “Hey Hey” at the Beatport Music Awards. Dennis also won “Best Deep House Artist” at the 2009 BMA’s and took home the International Dance Music Award for “Best Underground Track - Hey Hey”. Along with these accolades, DF has received worldwide acclaim from the press and house music enthusiasts alike. The musical integrity of Dennis Ferrer is unquestionable. With a career that spans over a decade and an immaculate discography that strikes fear in the hearts of his contemporaries, his modus operandi is quality over quantity, motivated by the desire to evolve with each new piece of music he creates. As always with Ferrer, the best is yet to come. With a deep knowledge of the past and a constant push for the future, Ferrer remains one of the true greats of house music - a leader and innovator who enjoys the buzz around him but continues to push the limits.
Dennis Ferrer always rips it up when he visits Toronto and his last visit to Sunnyside was no exception. Labour Day Long Weekend 2010 at Sunnyside was nothing short of spectacular! Over 2 thousand house music lovers came together & danced the night away at the Pavilion to the sounds of Objektivity’s head honcho. Join us on Labour Day Long Weekend for a Sunset Session at Sunnyside with house music visionary, Dennis Ferrer alongside Objektivity label mate from Germany, Andre Hommen & an all star line-up of local DJs! 10 hours of music, 2 courtyards, amazing international guests & phenomenal Toronto talent. LET’S DANCE!
Don't forget, doors open at 5pm to 3am with DENNIS FERRER on at 9pm! Arrive early & jam in the sunshine! Stay late & dance under the stars!
★ANDRÉ HOMMEN • Objektivity . Dusseldorf
SET TIME: 8pm to 9pm | Objektivity web | André Hommen on RA
"If I had to describe what house music means to me - it may sound vague - but all i can say is, house music is my motherland, my home… in the figurative sense, it's like a place where i really feel at ease." A strong statement from DJ André Hommen, who has probably seen hotel-rooms just as frequently as his own four walls of late with gigs worldwide.
André Hommen's life script continues to build traction with house music at it's center. He is part of the administrative and creative team behind Dennis Ferrer's New York City based Objektivity imprint and has had the opportunity to develop projects by artists including Ferrer, Argy and The Martinez Brothers. In collaboration with the producer Gorge of the 8bit label from Mannheim, André Hommen's first release for Objektivity was created. His acclaimed debut title "Marashi" from 2009 was one of the most played tracks of the year. His followup track on the legendary label Plastic City, "Hakunyo" was also charted heavily.
André Hommen rarely spends time at home these days with a calendar that is fully booked months in advance either as a solo DJ or as warmup for Dennis Ferrer. "When I find the time, I work on new tracks. I try to incorporate a wide range of influences. I am also influenced by the broader classics of music history such as the album "Exciter" by Depeche Mode. The curves of suspense which the band builds in to their writing and production serves as an example of how to do things the right way."
We should be excited that more tracks by André Hommen are coming soon and if you see him perform in a distant club somewhere around the world, fear not for he is not homesick. André Hommen has found his home.
