A candid look at common patterns that some researchers have identified political conservatives share all over the world.

key quote:....a second key dimension of conservatism - an endorsement of inequality, a view reflected in the Indian caste system, South African apartheid and the conservative, segregationist politics of the late Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-South S.C.).

    Worth a read.

    ---------------------------------------------------------
And now for the presidential punch-line:

....Conservatives don't feel the need to jump through complex, intellectual hoops in order to understand or justify some of their positions, he said. "They are more comfortable seeing and stating things in black and white in ways that would make liberals squirm," Glaser said.

He pointed as an example to a 2001 trip to Italy, where President George W. Bush was asked to explain himself. The Republican president told assembled world leaders, "I know what I believe and I believe what I believe is right." And in 2002, Bush told a British reporter, "Look, my job isn't to nuance."

Sounds a bit like the truth has been revealed to them by a higher power and they don't feel the need to justify their acts.

Reminds me of Machiavelli's "Discourses" where he treats of the situation where politicians will often refer and use religion as a means to have the masses on their side. History repeats itself as we can see.

I'm reading a pretty good book right now called Blinded By The Right: The Conscience of an Ex-Conservative by David Brock.... he was originally a liberal gay democrat heading into college @ Berkley where he worked on a lot of writing for the media. At college he was turned off by the staunch, hardlined liberal stance and turned into a hardcore conservative writer for years and now he's written a book about a lot of the foulness that he witnessed within the conservative ranks.

I'm only about 1/3rd of the way into the book but so far its pretty good.

Here's a link from Amazon with some excerpts...

MMMM.... actually, I think I picked up in Seattle but I can't remember for sure. It was purchased in either SeaTac or Dulles as airport/airplane reading material.

One very interesting aspect of the book is the author's openly admitting his personal issues/faults/idosyncracies that influenced his path through the parties...

As for his going back to consulting for the democrats.... same beast, different head imo.

Peace and thanks for coming out Sat night to Red Christian, hope you had a good time.
