Sanctuary Visiting Artist Profile: Christopher Odunukwe -- this Wednesday...

Visiting Artist Christopher Odunukwe will debut his work in United States from October 1 to October 3 at the D.C. Sanctuary Art Gallery and Performance Space, 1355 H Street, NE. The exhibit opening is Wednesday, October 1 from 7 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. He will be doing a live art installation accompanied by DJ Jahsonic (aka Jamil) in the main gallery.

Christopher was born in Lagos, Nigeria, and is a native of Anambra State in eastern Nigeria. He has been exhibiting his works throughout Nigeria for the past seven years. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Physic from the University of Benin in 1999, he decided to pursue his early passion for art.

Christopher's works explore the substance of the cultural life of everyday Nigerians, such as African market women, and portray an African vision of sacred religious themes, as in one of his most recent works, The Ultimate Sacrifice. While his primary medium is oil, Christopher also works in pastel, watercolor, charcoal, and pencil.

Christopher has worked with internationally renowned Nigerian artists Nike Davies-Okundaye and Chief Oloruntoba. Most recently, he has exhibited his work at Nike?s Center for Art and Culture, Savanna Bank of Nigeria Ltd, Hackett Nigeria Ltd, the British International School, and the American Consulate and Embassy in Nigeria.
