A real treat for all you disco connoisseurs!

This week at Glorious we are extremely excited to welcome one of the true originators of our entire scene… the man behind The Gallery, and original Studio 54 resident NICKY SIANO!

As a teenager Nicky was privileged to attend some of the very early ‘Loft’ parties held by David Mancuso, and he fell in love with the scene. The Loft was a private party, but Nicky felt that the incredible vibe should be available to everyone, so with the help of his older brother opened in 1972 what is now recognized as the very first commercial disco-club – THE GALLERY!

It was here that Nicky made breakthrough advances behind the turntables, most notably being the first DJ to mix records, and also the first use of the 3rd turntable! These skills were soon passed on to two young clubbers who Nicky had employed to help with the décor, and who consider him their mentor... Frankie Knuckles and Larry Levan!

The Gallery itself became a huge influence on NYC nightlife, spawning the whole disco boom – Nicky was recently included in New York magazine’s anniversary issue’s ‘100 People Who Changed New York’ - Nicky was also the first ever DJ to remix a record, and it was at the Gallery that Grace Jones and Loleatta Holloway made their debut performances.

It was no co-incidence that when Steve Rubelle opened Studio 54 he chose Nicky as its original resident!

From 1984 to 1998 Nicky gave up the decks to run an Aids charity, but returned in 1999 to headline ‘Larry Levan’s Birthday Party’ at Body & Soul. Since then he has been touring the world, but amazingly this is only his third ever trip to London.
