I was reading in a magazine recently that Moodyman has been quoted as saying, "white people are sampling black music and making it sound tired."

    So what's all that about?

Is it a jibe at anyone in particular?

    Does anyone know about this?

The same article claims that he sampled 808 State's 'Ancodia' on 'The Set Up' from Forevernevermore.

Which if the comments are true, makes him look like a fool, because them boys are so white it's untrue..

This question was at the heart of that thread and about 25 before it.

the UK press went to town on the liner notes from his first lp on the planet e label "silent introduction" (ironic title really) which is where that quote is from.

its worth reading those notes (and checking the album!) because unfortunately some people really misconstrued them and turned his opinion into something that it wasn't..

all in all it makes for the best kind of publicity..

looking forward to his tour with theo, norma jean bell and terrence parker next month anyway - bed linen or not!

    ;)

been hearing rumours for a while, but it was in this months TRM magazine with a small article on norma jean bell

you might need to make a trip to melbourne for it though mate, dont know if adelaide will have enough heads to make it viable $-wise?

anyway I'll believe it when they're actually here - there was a few 'false starts' with theo last year as ya know!

ps: drop us an email about those cd's!

On a side note, Noel Cockshutt , a dancer with 808 State was shot on his door step in Wolverhapton recently, saw this on local news recently.

    From BBC news

"An 18-year-old West Midlands man, arrested in Newcastle-under-Lyme in connection with the murder of Noel Cockshutt, has been released on police bail.

Noel Cockshutt, who was a dancer with the influential acid house band 808 State in the early 1990s, was found shot dead in May at his flat in Wolverhampton.

The former rapper, who was also known as Mario Campbell, moved to Wolverhampton about six years ago. "

"White people should stick to making rock music." A quote that was from the inside gatefold to his album a couple of years back. But I agree. This, like racism,is old news. Whadda you think? Can of worms?

Thanks for that Walter, perhaps he should have said

SOME "White people should stick to making rock music."

Controversy, yes , ammount of truth , yes, shot in the arm , yes.

Mulling this over: - this could be a thread on it's own

What do you think moodyman would think about a Australian in his 20's with a website with famous US clubs history?

    or

A white french guy doing track listings for this site ?

    or

"Tell me your favourite funk tunes" posts from white english guys

    or

What was played at The muzicbox posts by white canadian's

    or

Hip Hop history posts by white americans.

or books documenting records and history of famous clubs.

All of these open up big sampling/cover version possibilities.

Lots of cut and pasting for Honky , yes ?,

/edit/ To add - some white guys are making music under the guise of dance when they are making rock music, whether they know it or not.

One of the reasons why I have no interest in this guy anymore.
If by chance his badly recorded sample tracks excite me, I'll record it onto CD from a friend, or better yet, download it off AudioGalaxy/Gnutella.

He don't get no more of this honkey's money.

Plus the fact that I actively pushed his music to DJ's and music lovers since the start of his career makes me feel used.

    Whatever.
    I'm over it.
    Next.

So you're going to stop playing his music because of his views? Gimme a break, you DJ at a club, don't make a political rally out of it!!

    No rally needed.

If he makes a hot track, I'll 'obtain' it and play it if I want.

Lots of other tracks to play anyway.

Even before I was aware of his racial views I was over the guy.
When I was running a record store I left several messages saying that I wanted to buy some records from them. Basically I had some money for them, but I had no reply, which I thought was WACK.
Even just a 'sorry no we don't deal direct but thanks for your enquiry' message would have been nice.

    No big deal, obviously.

if you play 808 State's 'Ancodia' backwards you can hear the following sentence quiet clearly:

"Black people should stick to making blues music."

    REALLY! NO JOKE! ;)

I have "The Set up" on a 12". I can't remeber how the track goes. Is the flipside of this 12 "Long hot Sexy Nights"?

    Peace
