I'm thinking of purchasing an M-audio Audiophile 2496 card. I want to record vinyl to PC and do some simple editing (not really producing totally new songs) at a decent quality.
I'd like to hear some comments from people who are using/have used this card. Any recommendations of other cards or suggestions are also welcome.
Is it usefull to record and edit at a higher bitrate/quality (96 kHz/24 bit) than the final file (normal cd quality). Will this improve sound quality or does the final quality only depends on the format of the final file (cd quality 44.1 kHz/16 bit) ?

the audophile 2496 was king of the hill in it's range until the new EMU soundcards came out...... the EMU 0404 has an even better quality.......

i guess you're aware that you need a phono preamp if you want to record vinyl into your soundcard.....

The Audiophile 2496 is a great sound card - especially for what you want to do, and I believe they are pretty cheap these days
