Pro Tools??

Okay, there's something I don't understand. I hear people say how phat Reason is and then they "run" everything into Pro Tools. What is Pro Tools? I just don't know why you can't do everything in Reason.

I know Reason doesn't do audio, but why can't you record the audio in something else and bring it into Reason via sampler (NN-XT)? I am NOT a musician so I will ask for some understanding of my ignorance.

I have Reason, ReCycle, Bias Peak, and GarageBand. I feel like I should be able to create a banging track with just those elements (in software). Am I naive?? I also have a Yamaha DX-27 synth (gathering dust as I can't play the piano) and a MPC2000XL that I haven't messed with lately (blame it on Reason).

Pro Tools......is the major software tool which almost ANY and EVERY musical genre will use for their audio production........look at it like an totally in depth portion of your sequencer window in Reason......except THERE are a few MAJOR differences...I.E. First and foremost you can record INTO pro tools you cannot do this with reason(for example laying your vocals down)another advantage is effects.....all in all it just better suited for any final production, sequencing, mixing mastering. So you could take all your rythmns created in Reason and totally fatten them up and make your productions sound truly PRO.....Im sure there is much much more to it but i for one have never used pro tools but gather what i know from looking towards industry mags......Do you read any mags for audio production they can be incredibly helpful...i read on occassion, Computer Music, Modern Recording, there is a slew of them, mainly i pick up the ones with the royalty free sample CDs (so I can use those sounds in Reason as well). And read the articles on techniques and gear reviews..

protools is an audio program, its the industry standard. protools is used in house music in 2 ways. one being recording your track into protools and recording your "live" audio along with it. the other being to record your audio elements and editing them before importing into your sequencing program.

thats the short of it anyway.

Pro Tools Free is crap, and pro tools is highly overrated imho......just take a look at Tracktion if you're looking for a good cheap DAW

i am really happy with ableton live 4......it has increased my productivity bigtime, the workflow is amazing.......especially when it comes to arranging in realtime

Midi-Programmers use Cubase.
