I was wondering what housemusic producers out there dont dj? Do they still have the knowledge to put out records that are dancefloor friendly, and are they successful?
Thanx!

HaHaHa! The reason I ask is I want to do productions but dont want to dj. I think that club life gets in the way of family life. I guess Im just not strong enough to tell them no. If ya no what I mean. :DOriginally posted by sammyrock:

I would tend to say that if you're making music for a dancefloor, you should have an intimate relationship with one, but that's about the extent of it. Don't let the scene limit you - just let the music flow! The reason you see so many producer/DJs is because it's hard to make your living doing just one or the other and doing both helps create more hype and name-awareness which propels one's career (hope that makes sense) but there is no rule that you must do one in order to do the other ... in fact, there's a big backlash against producers "becoming" djs (and taking legitimate DJs gigs from them) in order to pay the bills.Originally posted by Jesse Davis:

i find that a lot of musicians that arent DJ's too make music which is often much more exciting and fresh as they don't tend to look as much to dancefloor effectivity

Slightly off topic but needs to be said--What we need are some more "PROMOTERS" that don't DJ--besides Robbi!!!

I've DJed and got a few gigs in the past years I have DJed and know how to beatmatch, but that is about it. I collect records but didn't put them together in a mix until a decade later. But I have played music all my life and I concider myself a producer rather than a DJ. I would rather be more sucessful in producing rather than DJing. Plus I live in a remote area and never had much sucess in landing those national and international gigs. With a track you can demo it out to labels and thats that. Although a gig up in some exotic place where eveyone is naked wouldn't be so bad either. Peace.
