Saw these mentioned in another post and had a question about them. I see these at Gramaphone all the time (for a hefty price, mind you) and always wondered something. Are these actual edits Ron did? Replicas? Are they worth picking up at all? I also hear the quality is lacking. Any tips on these releases? How many are there?

yup, uk re-edits "in the style of Ron Hardy" and music played at music box.

shit sound quality, but there are some good edits.

i bought one, but will never buy again after hearing how bad it sounded when i tookl it home, since sometimes you can get tricked in the store with the headphones and think it sounds ok.

    I got high standards dawg!

Record Labels that manage to make just about every release sound good:

    Playhouse/Ladomat/Perlon/Environ/Peacefrog/Balihu/Noid/U-Star/etc...

A lot of overseas Techno & Minimal House guys got that shit down to a science from mastering to pressing.

And Noid is amazing because they make those disco cuts sound like they are gonna walk out of those speakers, pick you and and body slam you through the floor!!!

That's all I ask, is that everyone else sound as good as those guys! It's obviously completely possible to make your releases sound that good.

So yeah I am usually dissapointed with the laziness and/or lack of mastering/pressing skills of many relases...

U STAR is an exemple of a good sound mastering .But the master for me acually in dance music is Kerri Chandler. In my mind ,his records are well sold for this reason .Playhouse sounds bad for me ,but it made some good stuf like random factor 'broken mirror ',Isolee, light fantastic ,...

well, moritz von oswald dropped the ball on M6. the fuzz on that cut sounds like it's being played on a deck that isn't grounded.

Don't waste your money Magic Juan...the sound quality is pretty poor.

Yeah, some of them tracks sound liek they have been ripped from some of the Ron Hardy tapes on this site. Nevertheless, I like these boots. Maybe it'S the artwork?

    Peace.

These British people responsible for doing edits a la Ron, I wonder if they ever went to the club itself

Thanks for the suggestions. My main goal was to find that Kikrokos edit that he used. I believe it also appeared on one of the Lost Records 12", but I have had a VERY difficult time obtaining a copy.

juan, don't bother looking for the music box 12". i heard it two or three weeks ago, and it sounds nothing like the hardy edit. this one uses the bad parts of the song aswell, and the part ron used for his edit only lasts twice as long as on the original.

Hmmm i have the Lost Records version and Original Kikrokos but have always been more fun of the Remix by Risque III "Risque Madness". I dont believe the one on Lost is the same as Rons...could be wrong though...didn't Ron's go backwards at some point?

I was always told that it was the closest thing to the version he played. I definitely agree with the Risque III version. I love that!! I hold on to that record for dear life. Hope to find a double one day ...

I would think MJ if they were real the quality would sound bad. Ron's edits were on reel, and sound would definetely degredate after some years. There are board members on here with the actual reels of some of those sought after edits.
Don't think any made it to record though.

Terry they released another Lost records version in late 88/early 89.It has some of the joints from Lost records and a Derrick Carter remix of Jungle dj.This is the one the has the backwards flips. It's like a 6-8 song ep.

Think on the ep as another one of those boots like the colored vinyl ones with esg and Parlet on it that also dropped around this time.

I have that latter record you just mentioned, J. It's called "Classic Cuts Vol 1" and it is on clear vinyl. Recently went for $60 (!!) on eBay.

As for that Lost Records, the one I seek is on a blue label and has a total of 6 cuts (I believe). If anyone is willing to part with theirs, holler at me ...

I don't suppose you are willing to trade it for something, are you Terry J? If so, hit me up with a want list.

Ohhh I don't mind parting with it...as a matter of fact, the 1 I remember Ron playing had a another drum track behind it, like some high hats thumping. We can work something out.
