I was feeling quite horny today so I was not inclined to get to serious about the Freaky Friday thread and actually tried to just have fun with it - which I must confess I did. Sex is pleasurable and a really great way to be close to another human being.

    AND...

I think a significant part of the issue with guys posting next to nude pics of females, drooling and saying stupid things about them & their bodies is violence against women by men. And sex (and sexual attraction) is a major of vehicle of the violence.

When a man is attracted to a woman, society has all kinds of slack for men's behavior whether it is rational or not.

So, I would argue that is part of the reason why many women on the board feel uncomfortable when the guys talk about women like objects, toys, less than fully human, etc.

I am not saying that guys on the board have bad intentions - I'm pretty clear they don't in the case of the Freaky Friday thread, but what most guys don't realize is the connection between this behavior and the violence that is happening to women all the time.

    For example:

    1. Man makes a comment about a woman's looks as she walks by. When she doesn't respond with immediate adoring appreciation she's a BITCH or suddenly NOT ALL THAT! Also, often the guys behavior becomes angry and even aggressive.

    2. Boyfriend/Husband/Date wants to have sex. Female does not... man may beg, become angry, belligerent, and sometimes may decide to "take things into his own hands" literally and figuratively.

    Am I off base?

This is the common stuff that happens to women all of the time and I haven't even started to talk about the abuse, assaults, and rapes that make it into the news every day.

SO, I think we all need to keep things in perspective, b/c no one is being abused, assaulted, or raped on this board, but guys, you need to be aware, thoughtful, and a bit more sensitive. When women make sexual comments about men, do you fear being raped or physically overpowered against your will? Most likely not.

Believe me, it is still possible to have fun. When it all boils down, women love sex too.

    that was a good post...

    i agree...

i, however, was starting to feel bad because i WASN'T offended...

i was wondering if it was because i have more guy friends than i do female friends and i'm lax about them joking around and making crude comments... although my female friends do the same thing, in their own circles, in their own way...

i'm also not in the dating scene anymore and really 'forgot' how it is to be out there and dating and wanting to be seen in a respectful light...

i preach 'treat others the way you would like to be treated' and see no contradiction with that thought and heathy sexuality and/or admiration for same/opposite sex...

but if the content is offensive, it should STILL be allowed to be discussed... just in a more appropriate format, i suppose...

your post made me realize that yes, measures should be taken so that no one becomes offended...

someone suggested an 'adult conversation/pics' room... i think that's a great idea... i have seen it done on other boards... it seemed to work...

gman... if you're out there... maybe you could consider making a special place for adult themed content...

I don't remember any porn being posted yesterday, unless women in bikinis is now considered porn. The only nudity posted was that of a man......JMJ

I thought the most of the men here agreed to stop doing it. (Although a woman started Freaky Friday). And whether porn or not, looking at women in bikinis at work, can still probably get some people fired.

i think you have to accept the fact that people are offended, whether you understand why or how, or that they may have different standards than your own - if you want the benefit of interacting with people different from yourself. porn/nudity/bikini clad people are all over the web, but if those images offend people i want to hear from, like tam tam, shalewa, neco, kara, etc, then i would rather ban those images and add another rule to the posting guidelines to ban posting those images. peace, gotta run

I thought the acceptable response to anything someone finds offensive posted on this board was now:

"I didn't realize they had a gun to our heads telling us to look at the thread." - Myor

That absolves everybody of everything doesn't it. Nobody said look in the thread right. but not really.

If material is inappropriate for the workplace, its inappropriate for the DHP.

My question is WHY DO THE MEN (a small circle of them, mind you) INSIST ON PLAYING THE "NUT-ROLE"? You act like children who stick to the letter of the rule in the principal's office. I'm embarassed for all of you.

You're running off some great minds that contribute to some powerful and valuable discussions. If that's your intention, well done. :(

3.) No posting of X rated pictures. These posts will be removed.

this seems pretty clear to me. maybe it's requires more definition. like i said before, someone always uses the freaky friday topics to take things to another level i.e., full frontal nudity (and in suggestive positions). then, some people start making cyber advances toward the women and it just goes down hill. it also affects other threads.

i'm not against the freaky friday posts. i am against those things that violate the rules of the board and create an imbalance that usually runs the sisters away.

I think some of them have self esteem issues and LOOK for things to bitch about. How can you bitch about something that you CHOSE to click on??......JMJ </font>
Sounds to me the self-esteem issues are YOURS. </font>
Really? Why?.....JMJ </font>
Because you are unwilling to empathize for anyone who does not share your point of view. Every topic or reply that details a problem, issue or gripe and your first post is always "FUCK 'EM".

You continually correct people. A funny joke can't go by without your co-sign. You can't see past your own egotism to consider that the picture posted yesterday wasn't appropriate for "mixed company" - to the point that the only one carrying this "uptight" torch now is YOU.

You seem to prop yourself up on the woes of others.

Yes, but the DHP isn't about you and yours. It is a COMMUNITY. Again, another self-esteem example. Are you that self-centered that you would relate a community of thousands to your own personal standards?

    Psych 101, man.
