...post here please.

for me...Friday:

snuck out and went over to the Bang the party one-off at Frank's and had a good (grade: c+) time....got there a little before 1am and pay my $5 and got upstairs and was a little taken aback by the lightness of the crowd...looked in the booth and LoLa was on the decks like a cook over a pot about to bring it to boil...then I remember this is a Bang the Party party and te crowd don't get there 'til about 1am, and so I picked my spot in the back corner of the dance floor, or is that the front(crazy muufuckers in the back make some noise) and commence to get my groove on....

Leslie was in the place with her partial crew(you know because you always see the mofos from the hangerons club sweatin' 'em..lol)...then LoLa turned up the heat on the pot and commence to cooking and, keeping true to BTP tradition, the party people showed up and and LoLa started cooking....and we danced, and made noise, and hollered, and whistle and danced....LoLa did some really nice mixes.

the party came to a simmer kinda way too early for my liking(don't have a real explanation for it), but I stayed and just vibed(yuck!..haha). Left out of there about 4:30 and call it a night...

turned out, I also called it a weekend because this was the only party I did...I doubt I'll be going anywhere else because my brother is having a BBq and I have a big day planned tomorrow....

any other reviews from anywhere else in the world?

please share....

but I had the chance to go out for a drink right after work at around midnight last night and ended up in this bar by the beach where this young female dj was playing some 'funky house'. Stayed for an hour glancing at beautiful young dutch ladies boogying, while I had no energy, laying on a couch with a Corona in my hand. I don't think I was even able to finish the bottle :(

Nice to get back to sharing some memoirs.. I played an event that coincides with a collective that we are trying to do in London called DJ''s4Life organising parties and promoting ourselves and other up and coming dj's who are as passionate about the music and put their time into playing it the right way. I played a basement session sat night really hot and sweaty, and even with the air con on we had to keep the door open. Great party though we mixed new house and classics and it was great to have the girlies screaming as well :D .

After headed to Plastic People for a 'Lost' session caught a little of Juan Atkins and Steve Bicknell which was cool.

Friday
1) Moonshine w/ residents Brian Gardner, Jevon Jackson, and Branda D.

very chilled out loungey atmosphere @ Moonshine this week though the music was really nice (as always). i shot the shit with some friends, Brenda bought me a drink, i ate some pizza, finished my drink and bounced.

2) Darkroom
Hakim Murphy was playing some nice shit but the other dj was playing some boompty bullshit which i wasn't feeling at all. i was ready to leave almost immediatley. what i really wanted to do was go check out Agent AA birthday party @ Dante's but my homies didn't want to go. sorry i missed your party Art. Happpy Belated. after Darkroom we ended up at this trashy country bar where we drank ourselves into obliteration.

Saturday - Went to check out Moodymann, Theo Parrish, Rick Wilhite, and Marcellus Pittman @ Smartbar. when we got to the door they told us some bullshit about how the flyers were misprinted and that the cover was $15.00 instead of $10.00. we ended up getting in for free though anyhow cuz Brenda D added us on the list but we didn't know that beforehand. we just took a chance and asked the person taking money if there was a chance we were on he list. we were, YAY!!! maddd people i knew were up there. the music was bangin!!!! but the system sounded absolutely horrible. the vibe was kinda weird too. i danced a little bit with the girl i went up there with, danced a bit with my ex, drank a whole lot (my boy Louis had me covered on drinks all night, Double YAY!!!). my girl got all crazy drunk so we ended up leaving at about quarter to 4:00. went and got some tacos and went back to her place.

Sunday - it was a nice day out and i wanted to be out and about plus ole girl was crazy hungover from the night before so i just bounced around 1:00 so she could get some rest and try and recooperate. Salena and Deb met me up at her place. i hung out with them for a few hours. Salena dropped me off @ home around 4:00 pm. i got my records together got ready and left the crib around 4:45 pm...Destination...Iggy's. Something Eargasmic @ Day-Ra.

Resident Brian Gardner with special guests Daryl Cura and myself. i got to Iggy's around 5:30. Christa and Kris had a table already so i sat down with them. Michaela and Edie came through shortly after i got there. they sat down with us, we ordered some food and drinks and chilled out shootin' the shit while Daryl played records. i got on around 7:00. played some records, finished my set, got paid and went home. and here i am typing this.

needless to say i'm pretty exhasted right now.
i didn't sleep much this weekend. i'm sure i will
sleep like a baby tonight though.

was attending and playing at a triple 30 th birthday party in scotland.only my second gig ever lol

turned up at 7in the evening and set up my tables and monitor. done one mix and made sure it was cool then headed back home to shower and chill for a bit.

headed back to the party at 9 ish and got my shit together. played mostly new stuff but added in a few oldies for the girls. there was about 150 ppl there which was good and everyone hada good time which made me feel a lot better.

degrees of motion - do u wanan it right now
joe smooth - promised land

were some of the older cuts

anyways after the party i got persuaded to take mt tables back to a huge house in the area and i set them up in the main living room(there was more than one lol). about 40 people turned up and i played from 12 30 until 5 in the morning lol. my longest set ever. 4 and a half hours long is a marathon for me because i aint all used to playing out or even playin at house parties.

it was one of the best experiences i have had. ppl were dancing all over the place and i even had a group of ppl goin insane for a good part of the night. what an amazing experience that was for me. just to be able to play my music to ppl who are all into the vibe wasawesome.all people there new me too and new i had been dj ing in my bedroom for the last year but hadnt ever heard me spin.

this maybe sound standard issue for a lot of u guys in here but for me it was a big thing.

marathon sessions and people dancing !!

bring it on every week i say :D

Beaniboy, sounds like a fantastic night! Congrats!

I, too, went out (on a whim) for a spell last night myself in the East Village, believe it or not... first I hit Starlight for Jeannie Hopper - was there for a minute (I REALLY can't take gay spots) then went over to Sole Channel. When I got there, it was pretty empty besides the usual suspects but I hung out for a bit with El Mayimbe, Alix, V, Adam Scott & the crew while Lola threw down the beats. Then I went down to Abaya to see what was going on there (nothing) - had a couple free glasses of champaign and headed back to Sole Channel, swinging by the Boys Room on my way to say hi to my friend Joe who works the door (just as Boy George waltzed in). Arrived back at 85A and it was pumping! Karizma was on fire and the place had gotten quite crowded. Stayed for a few and enjoyed the vibe, then made the made dash home 'cause I didn't want to get into trouble (I'm beginning to understand my limits, believe it or not).

Anyway, it was a fun - albeit brief - Saturday night out on the lower east side.

I saw Photek of late-90s DnB fame on Saturday and it was awful. It was like being transported back to 1997. At one point I turned to my friend and said "Hey Photek, the last century called, they want their DJ back." He laughed his ass off and said I was right.

I've seen some decent evolved DnB acts in the last year or two. But last night wasn't one of them . Luckily there was also a smaller room playing breaks and they were pretty good (http://www.breakthrusf.net/breakthru.html).

The ashe was flowing at Ashe in Hoboken last night!!! Peter Reyes' crates are indeed deeper than anyone can fathom! Havana-Soul brought the latin & house groove and the crowd was goin' wild! Resident Lou Gorbea took over and kept the groove flowin'...
I admit, as a non-smoker, I prefer NYC these days because I can dance without having any asthma attacks...but I had mad fun.

As usual, Kat was a visible presence, inviting us all to dance our dances...loads of folks were in the house...This is a dancer's party (with that one little cig smoke exception) and the bar is a good one. There's pool for ya'll who wanna be laid back and cool.
Heard about that Ft Greene thing...wha's up w the Rick James? Hello? Hello? Although the Barry White comment above makes me wonder: Wrong age group? Who knows.

yeah, I'll second that - it was mad hot in there. but a great (little) spot and a DJs favourite crowd - knowing the music, some at least (but not too well!) crazy energy and joyful, expressive dancing. pat on the back to Eric for pulling his crowd together and everyone except me for acting like they were'nt in a sauna!

and nice set Alex hey tell me more about Juan later...

Well Ray, Timmy did a Rick James tribute and followed it with Tina Marie. A really nice one, I was surprised cause he usually doesn't do that to the extent he did. He did it at about 8:30am, he's also playing a new record by Joaquín Claussell, sorry don't know the name, wonderful stuff, he mixed it beautifully into Antonio's Echu Aye, I got my fill of world beatz this weekend with that and the African Festival in Prospect Park, what a great event! Again the place was really full right up until the point where he wouldn't play another encore... :D

Cheddi, I am so sorry I missed the party, I lovvvvvvvvvvve that space, ya got nice pics too! Please tell Gopaul Happy Birthday for me!

I thought Shelter was kinda tame, at least compared to the last few times I've been, which were off the hook. He did play what I'm guessing is the official version of "Obatala" that is getting a release(???). It sounds very different, with a sax replacing the organ and alot more vocals. Seems to have a nice almost acapella chant breakdown in the middle (or maybe Timmy was mixing this, couldn't tell). It's a nice record, but not as raw and grimey as the original unreleased version. Maybe both will come out. Who can say??? He was also breaking a couple of other records. Some instrummental joint that has this loud descending organ, sorta reminiscent of the riff from Spencer Davis' "I'm A Man". Some other R&B-ish female vocal joint about "He's my lover, my baby's father, something something". Pretty catchy and great production. He beat up that Barbara Tucker for a minute too. Did a loooong mid-tempo classics set that included a few tracks I haven't heard at Shelter in years like B-52s, Hall& Oates, Odyssey's "Inside Out" and even "Native New Yorker", which always gets the queens extra amped, as you know ;) . A solid night (morning, actually) but a little low on the drama that Timmy can bring.
