Pressed /released in Japan. Some stuff is only released over there. That's why it's so damn expensive to get a jap. import like the Elements of life cd,which is 30 bucks.

Sometimes those pressings have dif. versions or songs not on american releases.

They're called parallel imports. Pressed and distributed in Japan and not meant for sale any where else. Yeah, like that ever works.

Bougie hit the nail on the head.

If you produce a track and license it to a label in Japan, you don't necessarily WANT that label to export their expensive Japanese product into all the European markets because that will kill your chance to license the same record to European labels.
"MAY YOU LIVE AS LONG AS YOU WANT, BUT NEVER WANT AS LONG AS YOU LIVE. MAY YOU LIVE TO BE 100, & ME 100 BUT MINUS A DAY, SO THAT I'LL KNOW THAT NICE PEOPLE LIKE YOU, HAVE PASSED MY WAY. AND REMEMBER, WHEN FRANKIE CROCKER ISN'T ON YOUR RADIO, YOUR RADIO JUST ISN'T REALLY ON."

Most Japanese LP's contain at least one or two extra tracks..Anyone know why?

Also, does anyone know why most things are released so much earlier in Japan?

Most of the time 2 months before the U.S. and Europe

Like the Elements of Life LP, it has been on the shelves for well over 2 months over here.

Is there any reason for this?

So how does he make more money?

The CD's are just the same price in Japan, so there's no extra there, is the money made from people in Europe and the U.S. buying the imports?

Baring in mind, someone mentioned that Japanese imported CD's can fetch $30/40 in the U.S. and I can walk into HMV and pick one up for about $16

Perhaps there's a business to be had here?

its all to do with how much you can get for licensing stuff to the label in japan!
the price it sells for dosn't realy matter

the japanease apparently buy product for a better price and sell more units

of coarse this is all hearsay

There is also a lot of Jazz and Fusion stuff in the 70's that were Japanese only releases.I managed to pick these up pretty cheaply

Herbie Hancock Flood (HeadHunters Live Japan)
Dedicated (solo lp)
Directstep (direct cutting lp)
Also Dee Dee Bridgewter Afro Blue lp
Bernard Purdie Live in Tokyo lp
Chico O'Farrill Latin Roots lp

Do any of the collectors know of other Japan only releases that are worth picking up? I dont get why these lps would only be realeased in Japan. I know with Dedicated Herbie was requested by the president of Sony to record a solo lp only in Japan. Comes with a nice poster too
