Multi-level / Network Marketing - good or bad?

what's the consensis on multi-level marketing these days? how about network marketing? is there a difference between the 2?

what are the pros and cons?

are they all like Amway? have they gotten better? I have bad memories of Amway people trying to bring me into their cult 10 years ago. yuck yuck! shiny happy faced smiling people with that american ear to ear grin, and the unspoken promice of the american dream being sold (the white picket fence. etc.. yuck yuck!)

Not into MLM myself, but Mary Kay counts as MLM too, yes? I think most people would consider MK "good."

that's what i thought. what about Network Marketing businesses (as Rich dad poor dad author praises.) ? how are they different?

Network Marketing ... (One) Definition:

A business in which a distributor network is needed to build the business. Usually such businesses are also MLM in nature in that payouts also occur at more than one level. Network Marketing is sometimes also used incorrectly to indicate that the business uses a network of product suppliers in order to offer a broader selection of products. It is usually used this way to differentiate themselves as a way to suggest that their program is superior to other such programs.

but like Mary Kay cosmetics, and Shaklee Distributers ...they are network marketing but not multi - level though. am i right about that? so how are they good?

Amway (Quickstar) is a legitimate MLM company, but it's NOT a get rich quick scheme. DOn't believe when they say you can but in 10 hrs a week, and build a huge network. Yes, you can put in 10 hrs a week, but you're not going to build ANYTHING worth while.

I was in it about 10-11 yrs ago, and I had a nice sized group. Made some decent money, but I put in some HARD work. Didn't make millionaire status, but I learned SO MANY positive things about business and relationships.

Don't know too much about the other companies to make an informed opinion.
