how in the hell does a $19.95/day van end up costing $200 + at the end of two days?! I mean, it's all there on the receipt, but they definitely bullsh*t you on the initial price quotes and omit information as to how quickly costs add up. jesus H!!

I had one really awful (scary) experience with U-haul on a cross-country move....they rented me a truck with literally broken front suspension then tried to blame me for the problem (then left me and the friend who was helping me move to the task of moving the stuff into another truck). Then there was a rather animated argument about their attempting to assess surcharges when returning the truck. I'd never so much as buy a $2 box from them again if I could possibly help it.
I had a much better experience with Ryder a few years later...the weight of the truck was bearing down on the back tires and the rear fenders (or whatever you call them on a truck) had actually cut into the sidewalls. I was prepared (after the previous u-haul experience) for some big drama....but they were extremely nice, thanked me profusely for finding them problem before having an accident, upgraded me from a 17-footer to this *huge* diesel-powered 24-foot monster (which was actually kind of fun to drive), and they got two guys to unload/re-load all my stuff (lots and lots of records, which they identified as probably the cause of the problem). *And* they paid for the nights' lodging that was neccessitated by the delay. That was about nine years ago, but if they've maintained that level of service when things go a little wrong, they're well worth dealing with.
(Moral of the story...when carrying a lot of records in a rental truck on a long move, go at least a size up from what the cubic footage suggests you'd need.)

How bout 1-way moving 1 state to next, ya truck shutting off AFTER A 30 MIN DRIVE for no reason. U call road service they say can U drive it to next UHAUL?(doh' its STALLING!) Then having ya stuff in the truck for 1 week (smellin like crap no ventilation)cuz they had no 1-way trucks. They gave me the wrong info where to drop it off and almost a month later I get a call @ work askin' where did u drop the initial truck... I said that FuhkiN TRUCK is still dead in the uhaul garage!Needless to say they didnt charge me extra (took me 7 days not 1 to MOVE 1 state over!) I lost $ in the Gas I put in the broken truck, it took 2 hrs to drop off the truck/keys... After a move in early 2002, I swore I would never use those mofos again. What's up with reserving a truck online weeks in advance only to get there and be told "first come first serve"?
It took all my strength to maintain my aura of Pisces-goodness and not bitch slap the guy behind the counter.
