When we first started DJ'ing, my friends and I had a DJ / promo crew called the Funk Fiends. We started it in the early 90s. I know that's not that long ago, but we seemed so much younger then!

2 of my friends played drum & bass, which was still being referred to as UK breakbeats and jungle back then. Then me and this girl were the House / funky DJs, and Recondo was the hip-hop DJ.

Between the crew we DJ'd afterhours, clubs, raves and the side rooms at bigger events since House or D&B wasn't usually the main attraction as it was usually techno or just bigger name DJs. We also would play at The Roxy on Friday nights in the mid 90s at a party called Together a lot. Francois K and LLV plus many others graced the decks as guests there. I had the pleasure of opening the main floor there, and playing the side room (upstairs vip lounge) with Recondo doing funk/soul/hip-hop too. We threw some one-offs that were dope from basement parties to clubs we used like The Octagon for instance, and later on did some fun weekly parties most notably 2 year running weekly called "Hot Fudge Sundays".

The girl quit DJ'ing, but the 2 of my friends (Christian Bruna and DJ Beau) are still spinning and are pretty respected drum & bass DJs, together they are called 50/50. They play raves and D&B parties all over the east coast and get flown places like LA and Puerto Rico to spin, and have some decent records out. Recondo sometimes dabbles in new records. And I am obviously still having fun with this stuff...

damn I was in a few, Supreme Mixers, Chicago music masters, and then a house crew with a couple of dj's called Pleasure control. Out of those crews I'm the only one still dj'ing. But there other crews that were older than us called Mix masters, and force dj's. Gary Wallace used to be in force DJ's, and my boy Les Brown was in mix masters, and they both still dj.

Sigh.. Out of many is right.

I was apart of many DJ crews through out Brooklyn, the Bronx, Staten Island and Manhattan NYC.

So many people too name but some have left the music for good, some dab a little and some are still in to win it.

Not too long ago one of my old crewmembers gave me his entire record collection. We started collecting at the same time (1978-79) and he stopped collecting in 2001.
Funny thing about this I saw some records in the collection that had my name on it..

I have also bought equipment from others which I still have..
I am happy to say that everyone is still living and doing well in their lives..

Very good friends I have from when I was a kid and still to this day. Good friends are hard to come by.

I am still with a crew after all these years… NU-Bang Clan!!!!!! Y’all know who you are!

I was part of crew, they are all doing quite well actually. Much better than me. Most have or are going to tour Europe.

I'm playing Quebecquois rock bars while waiting to get booked at a decent soulful house party.

In high school, I was part of this crew of Djs called the Body Snatchers. We did all the usual stuff party-wise. Of them all, I think only Cordell Johnson & myself are still playing records.

Here's the rest from what I can recall:

Greg Gray - still doing it!
Cordell Johnson - still doing it!!
Rob Burns - Emergency Medical Technician
Ken Baker - selling real estate
Gary Heflin - ???
Eric Blackwell - Air Force (out now, I think)
UPCOMING:
Saturday Oct 27th - Halloween party at LIttle Black Pearl (Chicago)
Friday Dec 14th - Club Elevations (Irvington, New Jersey)
