as an obsessive compulsive vinyl hunter i spend almost everyday handling old tunes, and i've noticed the same dj's names popping up stamped on the labels. i got nothing else to think about so i wonder who these heads were/are?!

i've found alot of great italo and 'leftfield' dance stuff with the name "KONG" in marker? and some wicked pieces with "DJ CC" stamped on?? Some amazing disco 12"s all featured the "BLACK PASSION MUSIC" stamp on too and recently I saw a cracker on the excellent fist-o-funk 12... "DJ CHAMPAGNE, DOM PERIGNON OF MUSIC"!!

most of this vinyl came from the ny area, so i wonder if any DHP heads can shed some light on who the original owners might be or where they played?? or maybe there's a DJ stamp that you've seen crop up again and again and wondered about?

or maybe i just got too much time to think about records?!

I have a lot of stamped stuff too. Will look at them when I get home because there are some funny ones.

Lots of Robbie Leslie and Danae Jacovidis stamped stuff cuz my buyer got some of their collections. There are really interessting notes written on some of them as well.

Does anyone know who the hell "SK" is? I have about 2 records with this stamp written in marker, and EVERY single second-hand store in the city has some tracks from this guy. Even on eBay I see those same initials. Anyone?

P.S. On a personal note, I never stamp my stuff. I generally hate writing on record labels, but I make exceptions on the harder to get tracks.

Ageed, it de-values the vinyl somewhat. I prefere plain so I leave mine alone.

I do use security marker as it doesn't show, and I hope I never catch anyone out.

Oh good, I thought I was the only one who has seen this in Chicago. I am starting to see a lot of records with a stamp that says 'Kevin Hardy.' Not sure who that is, neither.

Hey Martin .. where can those markers be purchased? Are these just regular over the counter type things one can get at an Office Depot or something?

great topic- Around these parts there was a club called the TROPICANA which apparently had it's own record collection, when the club went out of buisness the collection was sold. I see records marked TROPICANA all over and I have several good ones...
I also see records stamped 'Charles Bailey' alot...anyone know this dude? Others too but I can't remember of the top...

There is a club that I play in the summer that has a padlocked cabinet full of disco and stuff from late 70's early 80's. Noone has the key but I am dying to crobar that thing open.

So many clubs used those in-house collections or areas where jocks would leave their standby's back then. I think the whole stamping thing was necessary for that reason.

I've got quite a few classics that say "Property of Randy Tyler" on them. I bought them all about twenty years ago, so I'm guessing this guy just sold his whole collection, but he must've had a pretty good collection based on the stuff I've got with his name on it. Lots of TK Disco......JMJ

that whole idea of a club having an in-house collection feels almost "quaint" these days. now you can just imagine every guest dj taking a slice home with him.

interesting how much more "precious" the vinyl has become, as opposed to the music on it
