I know its very personal, but I myself have 5 1/2 months clean and sober. I just wanted to know if anyone else on the board might be like me.

Good for you, it's a hard battle to fight. My choice to give up on substance was a spiritual one and I knew if I kept doing it I would either become fatally ill or die. I've done so many drugs and alcohol since I was a pre-teen and I am in my 30's so my body had become immuned to any substance and it wasn't any point to indulge. I realized that it was time to grow up and live for my children so, saying all of that I've been drug and alcohol free since Christmas 2002 but I was pregnant most of 2003 so technically I've been clean and sober give & take 8 months now.

Stay strong keep the faith, find some new projects to get into to stay busy, meditation is a good thing to stay focused. As I said before my relationship with God has spiritually disconnected me from addictive behavior. I've tried everything else to stop and nothing worked for me.

    Congrats and be encouraged

    Hello Blk Tronika Gurl,

one of my best friends is in recovery. I've gone to a few meetings with him, like last year when he took his 1 year 'birthday' chip! I'm really happy for him. he's got his shit togehter and he's going to school... His main problem was speed, but he's given up everything, cept cigerettes. As far as I'm concerned that's the only way to go... I know some friends who were on what they called the "marajuna maintnence program" but they went right back to the shit.... I still smoke pot, but not around my boy, and we're still way cool and I don't even want to smoke when we're kickin it. I knew my boy before the drugs came into the picture and it's just back to how it was years ago. I'm glad he made his way and didn't end up like some of our other friends....

Congradulations on your time!! I know it's not easy.... another thing even though me and my boy are tight as fuck, I don't see him as much as I used to... He had to emerse himself in the program, he's got some new NA friends and goes on trips and to conventions and shit... some of our friends, including his brother, feel kinda like he bailed on them, but I look at it as he needed to do this for himself and I don't hold a grudge for it.... my boys still there when I need him, and now he's in a much better frame of mind then he used to be...

    keep up the good work!!!

to you for supporting a brother and everyone else who feel that them and drugs are just not a combination and chose to do something about it.

Thanks for the love everyone. This is really great to know that u all are so supportive. For me drugs and partying went hand and hand for years. Eventually the partying went by the wayside and so did my life. ITs a struggle though sometimes.

I mostly hate that I couldnt go out to a club and enjoy myself with out being fucked up.

Not to mention I lost a friend last month to an over dose on Speed.

We all have demons that we have gotten rid of or in the process stopping whatever we are doing to ourself, I did it in 1986 when I got cocaine out of my life.. I love me and I'm proud of you...
congrats to you and your new life..

Congratulations on 5 1/2 months. I really admire your putting-it-out-there action here on DHP. Please consider yourself an inspiration even to those who do not share your experience.

Congratulations a clean day is a successful one. There is joy in the journey so buckle up baby. I have been in recovery a little over 10 years. You are not alone. I am grateful for the gift of a second chance at life. I don’t know when the desire to use was lifted all I know is that it happened. Today I live a life happy, joyous and free. I am blessed to be me. I’m still a work in progress. So remember; easy does it and keep it simple.

    God Bless, ;)
