Thank you to all, especially David and Raven for sharing these memories. Unfortunately i was born too late and in the wrong place (1974 Northern England) to have any chance to experience the PG.
Its truly special reading about it from people who were part of that wonderful place.

very nice to read about the history of this music and it's culture.
as the thread started about the subject of membership, i've got a question.
do you all think that membership to a club has a positive effect to the atmosfere at the party?

Excellent question jurren.
If it is in fact a legitimate organization with a charter that respect the rights of all members and proceeds go back into the organization for its members than the answer to your question is yes.
If not than it is a farce. When you have no rights or say so about "your club" rather you are dictated to on what the rules and regulations are than it is a fake. Discrimination is also a factor. The money from the receipts of the membership card cost end up in their pockets, and only the $ costs for making the card is what you get back -- which then you are told "is not your property." Maybe you will get a perk or two, but that too is dictated.
Social charters are supposed to establish when "we the people" are members of our own club and decide its direction and mission.
Ask someone who belongs to real social club and you will see what I am saying.
It is not wise for one to profit on someone's loss.

thanks for the reply mr mancuso.
i was wondering about this because there are so many factors that come into play, that all have positive and negative side-effects.
for instance:
membership will create an atmosphere where everyone 'knows' each other. on the down-side, it limits access for out-of-towners, newbies, etc. and allways meeting the same people will get on your nerves sooner or later.
membership gives some sort of insurence to the dj that the crowd that's coming is familiar with his/her style and taste, and will therefore give him or her the chance to experiment/educate musically. what's the benefit of educating a crowd that will never leave the room?
and there's numerous other issues, but these are just the first couple of things that come to mind.

Whether you are using a membership list or a mailing list -- the folks coming will certainly have guests that they will bring along. This will kept the situation fluid. Generally it runs about 40/60.

Man makes me want to cry to know that I was a part of it all and that there are still people out there that was there with me. What happened to it all?

Too many people sold too many records and/or payed too many bills by becoming DJs for the business tycoons not to notice and take over.
