What's your name if using an alias (surname not important) Allyson L.
Where are you from NYC via South Florida via Albany, NY
Age (optional *especially for the Ladies) 24
Loves Losing my mind dancing (in the zone) Watching my favorite people get in the zone Singing—doing it and listening to it (Kenny Bobien, Minnie Riperton, Deniece Williams, etc.) Laughing uncontrollably Making love Music
Likes Improvement, optimism, social change, vision, gratefulness, family (in multiple, short increments), anything out of the box, learning from the BEST.
Dislikes Democracy masks, people’s lack of a full reality (don’t wanna think about it mentality.), caste system, abuse, radio & TV (every time I listen or watch I end up depressed—usually from the commercials), smoke
How you heard about DHP / who introduced you, do you have friends on the board who introduced you. Ron Paizley introduced me
Star sign (In True Float on fashion) Sagitarrius (don’t know my rising because my mother can’t remember what time of the day I was born…can you believe it…she just says afternoon? But I think it’s Taurus because I resemble a lot of the facets.) I also noticed a dominance of Sagitarrians on this post.
Favourite colour Would like to say I don’t have one but red and navy blue dominate my wardrobe.
Interesting stories I’m a haven for minor medical dilemmas encompassing allergies, sinuses, gastrointestinal, etc. I don’t have cancer or anything malignant or extremely painful, but hardly a day goes by without something mildly wrong with me. I usually ignore it keep on with high energy.
job-career Would love to be a full time performer including song/dance/production—have the talent to do so, but need a little more focus and less fear. Working on refining my talent as well. Don’t have much $$$ either so that’s always a burden. Currently I do a lot of promotions work in NYC, some bookings—hate 9 to 5’s and haven’t been at one in almost a year. Dream of going on tour…
Married I don’t believe in the institution of marriage, but would love to have long term relationship that lasts for years.
Kids Mother to the world. Want to adopt when I’m older…I don’t know why but I just don’t want to overpopulate. People think I’m crazy. I stare at kids all the time…
Favourite holiday spot the islands
Places to avoid Ft. Lauderdale, FL…where I grew up. Overdeveloped, overpopulated, stratified, semi-segregated, lack of culture. Get nauseous whenever I go back to visit.
Fetishes (you get the idea) Men who use multisyllabic, large words in sentences properly, men who I can learn a great deal from (I usually fall for them even if they’re assholes) large features on faces, openmindedness, talent.
What got you into this I’ve been street dancing all of my life. Moved to NYC and met people who introduced me to the scene. (Transferred to NYU for Music Business, didn’t hang out with college kids, 95% of my friends are clubheads) Went to a club where you don’t actually have to put up with getting your ass felt up. AMAZING! And they danced too… Music has to move you…that’s most important.
Lurker or Poster Both…need to be more of a lurker so I can pursue my goals unfortunately.

dislikes
bland progressive house the UK's money-grabbing superclub culture (RIP) Tories Big Brother and reality TV in general bad food (as opposed to baaaaaaaad food!) house people who hate modern R&B - ok, actually I can understand your point espcially in the US where it must just come across as homogenised manufactured lifestyle music, but whether you see it as modern soul music or just clever pop the Neptunes, Timbaland, Dre et al are still firing me up with some future-looking productions.

places to avoid: can't say I liked Jakarta much. Worse than Liverpool.
* What got you into this Big pirate radio fan while I was at school - LWR, Kiss FM (UK version) Solar FM, blah blah. Loving electro hip hop and funk introduced me to Set It Off, You Don't Know, jack Your Body as imports around '85 so it was a fairly organic move... started DJIng in 1987 at college: a lot of funk classics, Motown, Eric B/Run DMC era hip hop. Spent late 88s early 88-91 alternately raving to house, collecting rare groove and jazz dancing (badly). Loved tales of the Paradise Garage and High On Hope and Norman Jay's Kiss show introduced me to the third way of deep, collectable disco. Went to NYC in late '91, visited Zanzibar, Shelter etc. shopped madly at Vinyl Mania and came back with unhealthy love of soulful disco and house... been downhill ever since *Lurker or Poster Lurking poster

* What's your name Jonny McIntosh.
* Where are you from North east Fife, Scotland. Then on to Oxford when I was 18 and now London. So now my mum takes the piss out of my extremely anglicised accent. And so can you.
* Age 25.
* Likes Music: house, techno, disco, modern jazz, soul... Good food, good books, making good friends.
* How you heard about DHP, do you have friends on the board? Surfed in for the mixes whilst at university, now I fill in the hours at work I know the Kinky frequenters: Red D, L'housensual, Minus T. Maybe more but I haven't seen them yet.
* Star sign? Cancer (2nd July)
* Any other info? I work in the office of the Music & Video Exchange. A bad job with fringe benefits (not least of which is knowing who's the overweight DJ Extensive Record Collection) but I'm putting plans to escape back into the world of academia into action. I live with my long time girlfriend and my cat.
* What got you into this Used to creep off to Edinburgh to go to Pure and Sativae to hear those Detroit techno sounds when I was a teenager. The mid 90s, and the deep house sounds of Prescription, alongside the great Oxford record shop Massive facilitated the move to a severe house obsession.

So did MVE about a year ago. I've never been up, is it any good?
Massive was lucky to have some excellent buyers (Mark and Simon) with good taste across the board. Although when I was there (95-99) only D&B and commercial house were represented in the night life, Massive kept a healthy cross section of music - perhaps because they were the main record shop for a large catchment area. But still, I wish I could do all my record shopping in one place in London. As it stands it takes at least a whole day. At the time I was underage so one of the bartenders (her name was Candy?) put mascara on my upper lip which only had peach fuzz on it. I actually thought it looked cool (not). As the night progressed I was sweating profusely and I happened to wipe my hand across my face. Just after that the manager stopped in the booth and said my moustache was running, and he started to laugh. I didn't know my uncle had already spoken with the manager so everything was cool. Man what a way to start as a DJ. I was playing Stevie Wonder's "I Wish" at that moment and that is my memory. As for getting into this it was my mother (R.I.P.) who worked for Philly International during the 70's and that's how it all started. "I LOVE MUSIC"

Without hesitation and without payin' attention I open my mouth and blurt out.."man...why ya gonna bother with buyin' anything..just go out and get some old records and sample the drums off that shit! I mean....I do that allllllll the time!. Shit I mean....I've sampled the crap out of Roy Ayers..Ubiquity all that good shit he's got!!!......" Well at that exact moment everyone in the store breaks out laughin' hysterically and i'm starin' around like what the fuck is so funny? My manager is holdin' is mouth open like "oh shit!..." I still can't fathom why the guy who asked me the question is in near tears....I look abit closer and it clicks! ohhhhhh damnnnnnnn....It's Roy Ayers!!!! I dun fucked up now!!! Needless to say I apologized profusely and recognized that his drummer Dennis Washington was behind him also! He then said "Son...you've given me a great idea...i'm gonna go and pull all my 2" masters and do just like ya said!..thanks..." * What's your name if using an alias (surname not important)?
Emlyn (that's a boy's name for those of you who weren't sure!). Schmilo is derived from Schmoozic (the party I run with friends) and Milo (the dj name I use so I don't have to spend 10 minutes explaining to people that Emlyn IS a boy's name and it's really quite common in Wales)
* Where are you from?
London town.
* Age
I was 30 on Monday (and I've heard all those jokes already).
* Likes
- Beautiful music. - My beautiful girlfriend (sigh). - Friends of all sexes, colours and creeds. - Chocolate. - Dancing like a fool (and shrieking a lot). - Schmoozic - when people turn up! - Reefer madness. - message boards (started looking at the **** one about a month ago and now things are getting a bit out of hand).
Dislikes
- My job. - That drunk punter in every venue who has nothing better to do than hassle the DJ. - Schmoozic - when no-one turns up and the venue manager's giving me a hard time about the bar takings. - The distorted picture of the world portrayed by the western media - we boast about being free, but choice means nothing unless it's informed. - People who support musical genres like football teams. - Bullies of any type.
* How you heard about DHP / who introduced you, do you have friends on the board who introduced you.
I was given the address by a friend who still spends several hours a week downloading mixes from the site. Only person I vaguely know on the board (as far as I'm aware!) is Jeremy.
* Star Sign?
Libra (I think I'm very balanced, altough my girlfriend claims the scales are probably a drug reference...)
* Favourite colour
RED RED RED
* Interesting stories?
Erm...
* What got you into this mess?
Hearing MAW play in Febuary 1994. Tunes like New Jersey Deep and Mondo Grosso flying at me from all directions... I'm still recovering!

by accident (or by fate however you want to look at it). understand that i've been a hip hop junkie since i was 7 or 8. this record store that i used to get all the new hip hop joints from got in a box from some label called "chicago tracks" one day. copped frankie knuckles "baby wants to ride", adonis' "no way back", mr. fingers "can you feel it", and marshall jefferson's "move your body" on a whim. i din't even know that there was a name for that style of music. those 4 records changed my life forever.

* Where are you from
I'm in DC.
* Age (optional *especially for the Ladies)
30
* Likes dislikes
I like all that I can't see with my eyes.
I love music, any kind of music! I like to have everyone in a room because they want to be there, not b/c they are paid to be there. Even better if their bodies are going up and down. Even better if I'm responsible for that movement.
I like to know what moves you.
* How you heard about DHP / who introduced you, do you have friends on the board who introduced you.
Oh my God, I honestly don't remember. I must have heard about it from someone or bumped into it while surfing. I suspect that I found the local boards first, and then found this from there.
* Star sign (In True Float on fashion) Excuse me? I'm an aquarius. Does that answer the question?
* Favourite colour purple rain purple rain
* Interesting stories Too many to tell here. You'll like this though: I once convinced Isabella Rosellini to get something to eat with me. I remember looking into her eyes like it was yesterday! (OK, stop your drooling.)
* Any other info/experiences you feel you want to share. Favourite colour / job-carrear/ married/ kids/ favourite holiday spot/ places to avoid/ fetishes (you get the idea)
married, 1 3 y.o. son favorite holiday spot? Funky Nassau, funky Nassau! (I'll give it up to the places I visited in Asia and Europe too.). When I feel a longing for environs where i grew up, Boston. When I feel a longing for solitude, my old home on the Cape.
Boston is the city by which I consciously or unconsciously measure all other cities. I love that town. It needs a much better dance scene, however. Ever since the Loft closed down...
* What got you into this into what? music? dance? been doing it since I was 2. I got out of the opera scene by moving to DC, for life in the "real world". what I found was another form of theater. perfect. perfect for me. for a while. now, in getting back to music without the pretense, this is my goal. (ok, less pretense, how's that?)
I used to perform Sat. at 8pm, and then hit the club by midnight. It was living!
*Lurker or Poster The very act of me filling out this form qualifies me as a poster, yes?
