Those who can't hold a party to save their life. We have people out here who have been playin for years and should be getting work. But, the new jacks will play for free. That's another reason why the music suffers. That's why new jack don't play classics, they don't know the records to make blends.
I've only heard hand full of new jacks that can really play. Because the took the time to be educated. [ January 27, 2003, 02:39 PM: Message edited by: Basecore Boy ]

I have never been to Shelter so I just want to ask, If their formula for having successful parties is working (everyone tells me Shelter is THE place to be) then why should they mess with it by having more guest djs? ![[coolshades]](graemlins/cool_shades.gif)

That's a pretty blatant assumption.

Not on Timmy nite. Just a nite for guest jocks only. That would be great. I think Timmy would love that also. That way people can see who can play and stop asking and having attitude about not getting a chance. [ January 27, 2003, 02:42 PM: Message edited by: Basecore Boy ]

And we wonder why no young faces are seen in our scene, and why our music hasn't evolved in years.... Very welcoming, open-minded attitudes here in house....

This is a silly request in that paying 20 dollars at the door at shelter and giving that system to DJ's 'just to see if they could rock a party' would certainly not be getting my moneys worth.
The Shelter is not Ameture night at the Apollo.
Besides, for the music, people go to hear Timmy.
Timmy is The Shelter.
Besides, I really dont care who can rock a party.
All I care about is who can rock me. [ January 27, 2003, 02:45 PM: Message edited by: Jamie Lennox ]

I think that the Shelter, given the scale that it is on globally, should give something back and help to promote up and coming talents within dance music. Thats how I feel about that.

I wish someone would take some leadership. They are in a good position to do so. Maybe we don't demand enough.

What are you talking about?
next time you post a thread, tell us what you've accomplished since this last one.
Then you'll really impress us.

Please don't get me wrong here. I was one of 20 people going to shelter when they started. Were you there.

Funny, I was also there during the earlier days. I don't ever think I've felt the need to brag about it.

First...I love the Shelter, and am down there practically every week. I love classics, and Timmy, etc, etc.
However....Shelter is the past, not the future. You wanna make a difference? Do something new. Do something original. Fuck this "sorting out the fakes" nonsense.
And when I say original, that does NOT include:
-Starting ANOTHER tired house party at some played out venue with the played out DJs and without any truly unique elements. And then promoting it to the same 500 people that go to all the other such parties. -Moaning about lack of radio play (They would play house if anybody cared...but nobody does.) -Making a track with the same old beats, same old chords, same old singers, singing the same old songs, with the same old allusions to the same old classics, etc. And telling everybody that you want to "bring back songs." -Starting a plethora of internet "discussions" about any of the above. -Talking about keeping it real and underground, compliang about how long-defunct clubs were so much better than those around today.
Original DOES mean: -doing somethin NEW musically. -Doing something NEW with a party. -Looking at sales figures, attendance, demographics, etc and making real business-minded decisions.
This is the reality of the situation. If you don't believe me, look at sales, attendance, DJs/producers switching to progressive or other genres, labels/stores going under, the lack of interesting music, and so on.
By the way...had "our" people teamed up with the West Coast cats (Naked, etc.), instead of quickly turning our backs on them...the whole house scene would be WAY stronger right now.

No, it was probably some fly female that I took with me to the Shelter.
If that was intended as a diss, it wasn't.
Homosexuals have given House a home since day one, already doing more for house than you and this tired ass thread of yours.
And with that, I suggest you start showing the Queens and cross dressers (gay or not) some more respect.
