Just a thought out loud...
Can you replace Technics MK2 pitch controls with pitch controls from a MK3 unit (i.e without the click in the middle)....??

I haven't the slightest idea but why don't you like the "click?" I miss that familiar click when I play away from home.

Personally, I prefer the old school way of mixing on non pitch controll decks. My friend can mix seemlessly on these kind of decks - without ever touching the record.

Bullshit. The "old school" way of mixing records included pitch-controlled turntables, although many DJ's started on belt driven tables rather than direct. Unless your friend played his whole set at one speed (BPM).....I'm not buying it. There is a massive need to reply my Chicago based friend. All these supposed DJ's who need to use vary speed decks or to use there hands aren't really DJing, in my opinion. Real mixers can blend using whatever avaible, sometimes even on one deck!

JMJ, I started out mixing on non-pitch turntables and tape decks (1980). It's not as hard as you may think. I was able to blend with various records by starting the record and letting it either catch up or slow down to the tempo of the record playing. It moves rather quick though, no more than a 16 count.
Think blending disco records with live musicians.

It can be done.Without the use of hands???BUll-shit.I started out that way too.No pitch tables.Like G said,a quick mix out. Then again, most of the early house shit was all 120.
I started out on Technics straight arms, not the 100's.They were SL's.You have to use your hands until you get it down. Those were the best makers of belt-driven tables,Technics.
Dont modify your tables.I hate when someone changes the factory settings of the pitch. You totally defeat the purpose of the quartz lock. That shit goes all over the place once you chege them.

For real, I ran across a site, 1200s.com that was selling the mk3 pitch control slider (sans click) attached to a little circuit board piece that would plug into the old pitch units circuitry. Kinda plug n play! HOWEVER, the site claims technics stopped producing the mk3 pitch control PnP unit, so they only have mk2 pitch units. I see NO difference except that you don't have that button thingy on your mk2.
Has anyone ELSE seen the MK5 yet? It's got 2 pitch settings, +8 AND +16! it's also tastefully dressed in black...

My friend used to sometimes control the pitch by blowing on the deck - to either slow it or speed it up.
His other method would be to cut open the mains lead and give himself an electric shock, but by doing so reduce the power and slow the deck down. Modern DJ's have it easy.

Does Magic Bird of Kocks' posting style remind you of a certain someone else? Someone who's banned at the moment? Quit trying to be the U.K. Donger - it's been done.

Now I can't wait to hear your definition of a true dj?

link please. considering that 1200's had not really undergone a redesign(it does not need it,cause its work for them so far) in over 20 years (except of course for 3d,but that's not much of a redesign imo).
As for using the pitch control from a 3d on an mkII. Dunno, try it out and let know how it works out.

I'm not sure. I think that for now they might be Japan only. I don't remember having seen anyone selling them in the states yet, cause when they hit, they'll be all over Musicican's Friend, PSSL, etc.
As per your 1210's, you could always WAIT... ![[Wink]](wink.gif)
