You ever see him live? I did, at Manhattan Center some 30 odd years ago. He dances faster in concert than on the TV show tapes you may have seen. Only one faster than JB was Seabicuit! There was an Eddie Palmieri concert shown on cable a few years back, where he had a couple doing Mambo to his music. The guy was outstanding with his African inspired movements. He had me enthralled with his ability to go from slow motion to amazing speed in the blink of an eye. Also the Cuban dance troupe Los Munequitos De Matanzas are a group you must see when you can. Their dancing, combined with their Yoruba chants and drumming will have you in a trance.

When I was a kid, my mothers club, the Cape Verdean American Ladies Auxilliary, sponsored a trip up to Kerhonkson, NY to his resort. I was introduced to him and found out he was my friends uncle! When my daughter was in grade school, he came here to Hempstead for an assembly and spoke to her class.

i don't know why people would disagree that James Brown might not be as good as people say. i saw this footage from a documentary of him in 1956...i swear to God i don't know how he got from one side of the stage to the other so fast!! i lost my head...i was screaming at the tv.
and Ron locking was invented by Don Campbell, not Greg...i know that was just a typo but just tryin to get it straight for the rest of the folk on here.
another amazing group are the Electric Boogaloos. they were amazing in the 80s and into their 30s 40s and 50s can still dance amazingly better than kids my age. they just keep growing and getting better and better. i saw them a couple weeks ago and almost cried watching them(they're performing in NYC in November on B'way at the New Victory theater. i highly suggest checking it out.)

6 pages of messages on the best dancers and not one B-Boy was mentioned

breakdance is still the most expressive and creative style of the last 2 decades i think
if you want to know more about breaking and locking check this: www.thefreshestkids.com [ October 29, 2004, 10:38 PM: Message edited by: socratez ]

Ya, a shame Breakdance only lasted for a minute vs. endless rap/hip-hop that won't go away. [ October 29, 2004, 11:11 PM: Message edited by: analogbass ]

see "The freshest kids" if you haven't already... the best i've seen yet on the history of hip hop...especially it's focus on the origins of "break dancin"...
