Promoters, DJs and Businesses will need to get permission to advertise parties\events in the main forum starting Monday June 5th. If you regularly contribute to the discussions in the forum or have donated money in past fundraisers we will take that into consideration. [ June 05, 2006, 07:57 PM: Message edited by: Gman ]

How is permission requested?
And with this "preference" for site sponsors (understandable)... what would a refusal look like for somebody who either a) isn't a sponsor and doesn't contribute to the board conversation or b) someone who contributes to the board conversations but has not donated? Contact me or one of the other admins.
a) Post will be moved to the appropriate party forum.
b) Contributing to the conversations on the board and sharing information is very important and deserves some type of consideration\preference. This probably means you are in the upper member status catagories as well.

Though I would never use the page for ads just curious "Who made it bad for everyone else" or is it that no pay/donate to the DHP priviledges will be taken.

Austin, just trying to get a handle on the main page advertising before it gets completely out of control. Been thinking about this for some time now as more and more people come to the page. There is no one person just inevitable growth.

I think that's a good idea G-man. Thing is: there a ton of folks who post parties on DHP. Won't that be a lot of work you and the other admins to constantly moniter/move ads and what not? I guess I'm wondering if the heavy policing that would probably be necessary for a while is worth it?

I don't post in the main forum often out of respect, but I will definitely ask next time. Thanks, G! ![[thumbsup]](graemlins/thumbsup.gif)

I respect ads being relegated to a sub-forum so the board doesn't become engulfed in a sea of party ads. I wonder though: putting ads in a sub-forum is just like not posting it at all. How many of you can honestly say that you check the party forum for party listings, be it seldomely or on a regular basis? just asking. ![[huh]](graemlins/conf40.gif)

There will of course be a transition period as people get used to it. If it becomes too much work for us then we will modify what we need to to get a handle things. I am of the opinion that if you just let people know then the majority will just cooperate.

PLEASE NOTE - (I'm not talking junk here, b/c I've communicated my input to the power(s) that be here on DHP - directly, a while ago)
------------------------------
DHP is privately operated, and of course, personal decisions are usually not up for discussion ... that is cool
My main thoughts are:
Parties are "PRO-House Music", and allow people like me to incorporate the information, along with everything else on the Main Page. That's a good thing for House Music IMHO, even if they are self-serving, and excessive at times - we all talk about maintaining/building the scene.
Coupled with what the poster said above, #1 - I don't usually look in the parties section, but maybe once a month --- I guess that will change now (and it is not unusual b/c most other boards require posters to put them in the parties section) ... And #2 - If I'm looking for parties in e.g. Texas, what forum can I find those events in? - there are only sections for NY, NJ, Balt/DC, SF/CA, Detroit, Chicago and Overseas
But my main question is:
What does it say, when people complain about ads about House Music events, on a House Music board, but don't complain about "My Boss looked at my ass", "Please Pray for Me", "Anyone Check out Television Show X" "Check this Mixer Out" and "(Insert Drama Here)" posts that will remain in the Main Forum? ... shouldn't those require permission b/c they are outside of what I think the focus of DHP is ... and all of those are advertisements - either for self, for Fox, or for Pioneer
People complain about Music Event posts, but not about the non-sense posts, that aren't musically-related above.
Where will this lead our scene?
* Also - I am PRO paying for advertising, so please don't get that twisted - not many things in life are free [ June 02, 2006, 02:34 PM: Message edited by: DaveR ]

Hey Gman, is this JUST related to party promotion or promotions/advertising in general?
From what I can see of the first 2 to 3 pages, there are posts for:
upcoming parties pictures from parties that just happened (some posted by party promoters) broadcasts on internet radio notices of cancellations of events announcements of new record labels
All of these seem to fall under the banner of promotions/advertising but not necessarily party promotion.

Don't forget about:
- (Good) review posts from a party last wknd (which is subtle advertising/promotion for the next event) - Open questions of "what's going on in X-City this weekend?" which will get replies with party info
... and the list goes on
