Some of those BPM counts don't look accurate but I think they're pretty close on Let It Whip.

Wow! That's a serious flashback! I was about a month and a half from graduating from high school. I still remember working on a lot of "pause" mixes back then.

i was *10* in 1982. So, Billboard's top 40, counted down by Casey Kasem was all my world then. Occasionally, when I was closer to Boston, I could tune into WILD, but that was on special special occasions!

Although, 78, 79 were also among the best years, for music. 1982 is just as monumental. How could we forget later that year, the Minnneapolis explosion(Prince, Morris Day, Vanity 6) and the debut of Thriller. [Hail]

Wow. In April of 1982, I was still in L.A. I wasn't exposed to playing records to the extent that I would be upon arriving in Chicago but, I do remember some dude with a primitive setup in Lux's Game Room (kids without cars hung out in or around game rooms back then). He wasn't doing anything special, just playing "Genius of Love" for an ungodly long period of time. I remember hearing a bunch of J. Giles stuff during that time, and a certain tune by Al Jerreau called "Girls Know How To" caught my attention. Although I'm certain that the Al Jerreau tune stood out for pre-pubescent reasons(I was to start junior high in the fall), I also beleive that this tune came to mind to make me aware of moods-of how a song,be it a smash hit or not, can have emotional value if played at the right time. I had a dream about that tune being played at dusk, a time when the sun sets on the West Coast like no other place, to me at least. Many pleasant memories! [Big Grin]

The mix shows were on fire back in 82, folks would anticipate the mixing hours and have the cassette tapes at the ready.

Andrew, thanks for sharing the Wide Angle playlist (the guys behind Bromar's superlative "Strict Concern" and "Call Me" from 1985....

about 1982, that was the year i remember my parents would reward me for good grades to records at this local discount shop that had cutouts....this is where i got acquainted with Bootsy's Rubber Band "Player Of The Year" & "This Boot Was Made For Fonk-in"

1982 was definetly one of the best years...you had some real heavyweights with Charlotte, NC-based Chocolatte Cholly's label who released Wizzard's "It's On" (it's all about the "12-inch"...just ask Shadow), and Risse's "Let's Go For It" as well as the whole "Pied Piper Of Funkingham" lp...

other 1982 goodies

Mark Sadane -- Baby Wont'Cha (i believe Tawatha Agee from Mtume also participated in the vocals). produced by Reggie Lucas if i recall???

Unit 3 -- Let's Boogie Tonight (superlative Boogie on Bound Sound, which I think was in Miami by this time).

Kadenza -- "Let's Do It" and "Let's Stay Together": pone of the best, synth-bass heavy boogie classics of the early 80s...From the UK

Feel -- "Let's Rock" and "I'd Like To" (ridiculous synth-bass action in there on Sutra)

Splash -- When We Touch (Canadian Boogie from "The Hive" records)

Plasir -- Fou De Toi/from France

Neddy Smith -- Give It Up (thanks to Andrew Osborne to hipping me on this sophisticated tune)

Future Now -- Space Games (funk bomb on Salsoul)

WyndChymes -- Checking Out Your Style (cut from their 82 lp on RCA).

Electric Mind -- Can We Go/from Italy

Ellis Hall Jr -- Back It Up/i especially love the way this record starts up from 82 on HCRC out of Houston
