I treat myself to a 1/2 cup of orange juice every now and then but if I want the vitamin C, I just eat oranges.
I stopped drinking soda and I'm so proud of myself, and yes, I DRINK 8 GLASSES OF WATER A DAY now, wow, I'm surprised at that myself I feel so much better and have lost weight just doing that.
I cook more- no more fast food and have learned to make things taste good that are lower in fat and calories; it's not as bad as I thought it would be.
I like the results

Right now, I'm sugar-fat. Meaning...I have been indulging in sodas, alcoholic beverages, and sweets. As soon as I come off these (I'm binging right now--self admitting) the weight'll slip off.
And Timmy's so right about the gluten/wheat thing. I've been off for about 5 years now...I see the results.

oohh really? that might be true for me then! i'm less sad. i just, JUST, got serious about this and changed what i'm eating to actual real food and no longer living on gummy bears, low fat ice cream and red wine. maybe the first 10 lbs will be lost fast and then i wont feel so overwhelmed.
aww you gave me hope!

That, or eatin' like these teenagers I have is counterintuitive.
Here's a hint: I got on Nutrisystem and canceled once I fell into the habit of eating according to their plan. I then switched to home cooking and, when pressed for time, Healthy Choice meals. Very healthy compared to other brands.
Also, if you work from home, you have to get up early and remain active throughout the day more so than if you commute.
Good progress. Scrutinize the labels though on so-called healthy products. A lot of time the sodium is off the charts and they may contain a lot of sugar.
I use Lean Cuisine, are they any good? So far, it has worked for me. If Healthy Choice is better, I will go back to that. I just don't like the way those meals taste too much.
Kashi and Amy's Kitchen makes some great frozen healthy meals and foods. In my opinion, they're more natural and better tasting. But they are slightly more pricey.
but sometimes it's about paying for quality. ![[rofl]](graemlins/rofl.gif) [ July 12, 2007, 11:34 AM: Message edited by: kara ]

lean cuisines aren't bad, just more sodium so if you're trying to be off a lot of salt, try not to eat them as much. I eat one for lunch but to help fill me up, I have veggies on the side with it and a salad. It's really quite satisfying.
My favs are: meatloaf, thai chicken with rice and indian spices and the veg. lasagna. They have lots of others that are pretty good. I like to eat that meal for lunch.

Congrats, yall, for making healthy changes and seeing some results! I'm trying to do the same, though I need to get as disciplined about food as I am about exercise.

Remember: ya ain't gotta give up no ass to lose gut.
Believe me - I been dieting for a month and I got an ass upon which you can bounce a quarter and get back two dimes and a nickel.
Y'all just make sure to keep a l'il ass. Not all the ass - just, like, two-thirds.

Here are eating habits that were listed in the seminar I went to..
quote: Food Combining Rules:
a) Low sugar and high water fruits (alkaline fruits) and vegetables combine with almost anything on their own.
b) If animal protein must be consumed, mix it with vegetables or alkaline fruits only. Do not combine with starches, acid foods or oils. Vegetable proteins, however, can combine with all alkaline fruits and vegetables, as well as good fats and oils. In other words combine fish or meats with high water vegetables, instead of rice, pasta, bread or potatoes.
c) Starches should be combined with low sugar and high water content fruits and vegetables. Do not combine starches with animal proteins or acidic foods, oils or high-sugar fruit.
d) Eat high sugar fruit on its own in all instances.
e) Good fats and oils can be consumed with vegetables and low-sugar fruits and also starches.

Just an update on myself since I started swimming in late March I've lost 30lbs and my blood pressure is now well within the normal range. My doctor had recommended I start to exercise after the whole kidney stone/almost died fiasco. So I chose swimming and I now swim 7 days a week for about 45 minutes and it has given me my life back. I also quit drinking sodas and the like and made some dietary restrictions for myself.

I kno' Whole Paycheck (Foods) hurts like a sunofabitch but if you eliminate eating out and replace it with eating good while eating in, you'll see you can actually save money overall.
That's what happened to me.
Here's another thing - eliminate Costco, Sam's Club, Big Lots, BJ's, Smart and Final - shit, any warehouse clubs - as food suppliers. You think you're savin' but you're really overeatin'.
You purchase six hundred fish sticks, you eatin' all them muthafukas.

My wife transfered her Bally's Membership so I could start swimming. She joined another gym in DC that my buddy is an instructor. I am a former beach lifeguard and I really didn't realize how much I missed swimming until I got back in the pool on a daily basis.

hahah the only things i find good to buy in bulk are paper goods, cleaning supplies, pet food and some dry foods (canned tuna, snack packs of health snacks, soups, seasoning packs, etc.)
and for space saving - i put the extras in my basment storage in some good sealed cabinets
since i'm poor and gotta save $$ i can't pass the value in buying in bulk when possible ...
but for other items - it is all about Whole Foods - that place ROCKS! and the fruit and veggies there are just so much better quality than from our local grocery chains. [ July 12, 2007, 12:19 PM: Message edited by: kara ]
